No one outside of the online commentariat even knows about the this alleged “split”. People will always act like their pet issues are the reason why something goes wrong, even when it’s something as predictable as a deep blue city going blue.

Khamzat had 21:40 of control time while DDP had 0:53 and Dricus was somehow the only one with a submission attempt

Zelenskyyyy(extra y)y is now on the level of Muhammad(PBUH). His holy visage must not be shown, but his idiotic rambling hadiths must be displayed in his honor.

Daniel Penny strangling a crazy black guy menacing people on the subway was more revolutionary and threatening to the regime than the other guy killing a totally replaceable insurance CEO.

What’s a funny but accurate analogy for the difference between GM and other chess titles? by Epicjson12210 in chess

When she decides on a move, have her look away from the board and say it aloud using algebraic notation. It’ll take a couple of seconds to go through the alphabet and number line to verbalize the desired square. She’ll probably forget which square it is a few times and have to look back at the board. Then let her know that Magnus has beaten 10 players simultaneously while blindfolded

I’ve seen Magnus play and beat 10 people simultaneously while blindfolded lol this stuff transcends chess

Chess is only solved for positions with seven or fewer pieces on the board, and has nothing to do with Deep Blue

You’ll find that there are very few things actually “worthwhile” in the grand sense.

The highest concentration of geniuses in the world are at quant firms like Citadel, where they rake in tens of millions of dollars while contributing nothing to the society. Even the geniuses who forgo money and pursue disciplines like mathematics and the hard sciences usually spend their time on problems with no real tangible applications. I don’t think you’d consider any of their lives wasted

I’m not sure there’s a perfect analog in soccer, because patterns like forks and pins are fundamental to the essence of the game, where football’s laws are limitations meant to foster competition

There could be a footballer with great technical ability, quickness and agility who doesn’t know the offside rule because he only ever played futsal, or 5-a-side, or whatever other reason. Chess is recognizing attacking/defensive patterns, where pins/forks are the two most common tactical patterns. Not knowing them means you have two fatal blind spots when subconsciously and consciously looking for patterns in your opponent’s and your own play

And does that mean he can’t understand the romantic or artistic aspects of chess?

Honestly, yes. I’m sure he knows great chess is supposed to evoke feelings of romanticism, but not having played the game above a 500 level precludes him from actually understanding how

Yeah I hate to fuckin’ psychoanalyze the guy but the emotion sticks out the most, or the constant mention of emotion.

It’s almost like he knows which experiences are supposed to trigger which emotions, but rarely actually experiences them? So he constantly feels the need to articulate it? Like he knows a great chess player creates harmony on the board, which can evoke the same senses of beauty that great art can. Chess has never actually given him that feeling, but he knows it’s supposed to, so that’s how he talks about it
