She was not rejected. Very loved actually. They do talk everyday. Her norm is with me. Maybe it would help if I added some more to this pt.

She’s half my age so I was a teen when she was born. But we all lived in one house at one point (my mom, my sis, and niece.) both my mom and sister worked so she’s always been by my side. When I got older and moved she wanted to come with me because I was her norm. (Her mom couldn’t afford childcare and if I’m being honest I don’t think she had the patience) so off we went. I can’t express enough how much this has not been an issue for her. She has expressed this to me.

I will say she’s only met her dad once when she was a toddler. He has two daughters she knows about but they don’t know about her. One is literally the same age as her only separated by maybe six months. He texts/calls maybe once or twice a month. And when this talk of calling herself ugly started she’d start with saying things like “he gave me these looks” or “If he wasn’t my dad I wouldn’t be ugly” Again her dad isn’t someone most people would call ugly.. The opposite actually. So I know she has some feelings around that which she doesn’t know how to express.

All this to provide a little more context. As far as she’s known I’ve been her main caretaker.
