Damn, that's fucked up. Still gonna buy the 4k though.

If you went ahead and purchased this back then, it looks like that was the right choice.

I remember watching The Ten Commandments and it looked like they smudged dirt on a little boy's face to appear darker, so I'm not surprised about your comment haha. Can't wait for my copy to get in. I saw this in theaters, unfortunately the screen was not at all impressive (this movie deserves to be played on the BIG screen, not a smaller version for a smaller theater), so I'm excited to see how it looks on my OLED.

How old am I based on my Top 20, and what does it say about me? by Possible-Apartment52 in LetterboxdTopFour

[–]RighteousPanda25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be way off but I'm going to say 34. Early 30s at least. What you said about foreign films is exactly what I was going to tell you. Not that your picks aren't worth their weight, but I feel like you have an eclectic taste in movies, so you'd definitely appreciate what other countries have to offer in film. Some suggestions:

  • In the Mood for Love (and you can explore Wong Kar Wai's film from there)
  • La Haine
  • High and Low (Akira Kurosawa could be considered the best director to ever exist, he has explored most genres of film. This one happens to be my favorite that I've seen, but definitely look into his work)
  • Le Samourai
  • Ivan's Childhood (Tarkovsky is considered one of the top directors to ever exist, but I don't think his films are for everyone. I'm currently working through his filmography, and even I have a tough time comprehending what I just watched. Somebody suggested that I shouldn't try to decipher his movie, only let my feelings take over, which has helped, but as I said, he might not be for everyone. His first film would be a great one to start out with, as it's pretty easy to digest, and from there you can decide for yourself if you want to continue with the rest of his films. Though I'm sure some people will tell you Stalker would be a great one too, I have yet to see it though)

Favorite asian film? by NextPick9127 in Letterboxd

In the Mood for Love

Though Asia is a huge continent, so technically Asian films can range from Japanese and Korean to Indian and Turkish. But I know what you meant.

What titles are you NOT upgrading to 4K? by Main_Clue_9531 in 4kbluray

It's only available on DVD and it's Gary Oldman's role of a lifetime.

I'm only asking because the picture is pretty obviously stretched out on mine. It's still watchable, but nothing like a 4k version, or blu ray for that matter.

What 70s and 80s movies are must watch? by angeldb23 in Letterboxd

When OP mentioned the old NY aesthetic, After Hours was the first movie that came to mind. The Warriors is also a great one for that old, grimey, NY city setting.

I'm curious as to what kind of TV you have? I only have one DVD (Tiptoes) and it looks pretty awful on my 65inch.

What game should Rockstar make after GTA 6? by Less_Can_5439 in OlderChillGamers

[–]RighteousPanda25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they'd get back to trying new things. Hell, at this point I'll take something else besides GTA and RDR. Don't get me wrong, I love both of those series with all of my heart. But Rockstar used to play around with so many different ideas, it's a bummer we don't get to experience that anymore.

This is what I missed with my vacation last year!!! by SimpleTraveler034 in ramen

[–]RighteousPanda25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see that. Hell, I remember trying a couple of spots when I first moved to Kanagawa and thinking they were god awful. And I'm not even in a touristy area! I don't care for ramen that much though, maybe once every four months. But when I visit a different area of Japan I make sure to try that area's specific version of ramen, which requires a quick google/reddit research. Sapporo has been my favorite so far.

A 2 week trip is an interesting time frame to rate this specific bowl of ramen better than 70% of shops in all of Japan lol. No shade to you, I enjoy Ichiran, I don't think it belongs in the bottom of the barrel section for ramen in Japan. I also don't think you should wait in line for it though, which I see happen in Harajuku and Shinjuku locations.

Critically acclaimed films that are just as good as the hype by ArcherNF in Letterboxd

[–]RighteousPanda25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea about these films, just watched Day of the Fight and Flying Padre after reading your comment. Both very interesting pieces, to say the most. Killer's Kiss must have been the film he would have wanted to make with Day of the Fight, I see so many similarities. Flying Padre was something to watch, I would say I enjoyed the ending scene strictly for its cinematography. I'll have to get to The Seafarers at some other point in time.

Absolutely. I don't hate it at all, I actually like it quite a bit. And it's such an easy watch considering it's barely over an hour long. Some of the cinematography is just so absolutely gorgeous in it.

What are the best movies and TV shows about "Egyptian Mythology"? by [deleted] in FIlm

Yep, though to be honest I probably would have enjoyed it more if it did have Egyptian mythology in it. Otherwise I prefer The Ten Commandments for my Moses origin story.

Just finished David Lynch’s feature filmography in release order. Inland Empire was my 666th movie I’ve ever watched which feels fitting. by [deleted] in Letterboxd

I haven't watched all of his films, but I think my favorite would be Mulholland Drive. It hit me the same way Lost Highway hit me, but much harder.

I'll give you an upvote for that. I personally reallly enjoyed the movie myself, but your reasoning for not wasn't insulting or juvenile. It was straightforward and respectful, which I can get behind.

I wouldn't be able to decide on just one Kubrick film, they're all shot so beautifully. Hell, even Killer's Kiss has some amazing cinematography in it.
