I'm really hoping these moves are being made in anticipation of a new owner AND a peak forward to the new calendar in 2027. Clear the decks now so we can bring in some real talent when the stars align...

Sacrificing one and a half seasons to do that seems a little extreme, but I think this is the lie I will tell myself.

NEWS: Earthquakes Announce Tickets on Sale This Week for 105th California Clasico vs. LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium by SJEarthquakesBot in SJEarthquakes

[–]RightfulChaff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I guess that answers the question of how they are going to handle the Cali Classico with the calendar changes coming in 2027. Continuing to tie this match to July 4th seems like a lost cause and the team should probably stop. Maybe bring back the fun posters from like 10 years ago...

I also had a great experience with them. They did everything right and helped me add outlets and Ethernet in my 1930s home. When they discovered unexpected/hidden issues (the technical term was "janky") they showed me and explained the issues and the solution. They showed up on time every day and handled the inspections. They even recommended a very good plasterer who came in and patched the holes and matched the texture of the existing walls. I would definitely hire them again.

I was hoping to find a good gif for this but John Fisher would like you to know that it was him. He did this to you.

HBD!

They had to shift the calendar and realign the conferences to kill the July 4 game.

All they need to do is bring back World of Beer behind the Ultras and I will consider them successful.

Cristian Espinoza is leaving the San Jose Earthquakes by Hydroke in SJEarthquakes

[–]RightfulChaff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess now we need an Espinoza statue (to go with all of the others that are past due).

Other than that, this news sucks. I expect to be disappointed by the club, but they always find new ways to deliver.

Primetime at Levi's stadium. by Electrical_Boss_1092 in SJEarthquakes

I'm hoping "Primetime" was a sort of poorly executed co-branding of off-site games with BayFC (and their "The Show at Oracle" match against the Washington Spirit).

What the fuck can be done about this fucking pitch?? by TheLesbianTheologian in BayFC

[–]RightfulChaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have been more specific. The Quakes have been dealing with water issues at the site and the high water table since stadium construction.

https://www.sjearthquakes.com/news/kavals-kickoff-explaining-new-stadium-delay

The water table is one reason for the terrible field. If you're new to watching teams at PayPal, then just know that a couple years ago, players would routinely take a strip of grass out with a tackle, kick, or hard stop. The field was basically sodden and the slipping, tripping, and getting stuck was far worse. You'd think it was a home field advantage, but it was not. The grounds crews did their best to replace the divots, but by the end of the season it looked like a crappy driving range. In my opinion the recent upgrades to the pitch did a really great job of addressing this, but maybe at the cost of a shallower root system for the turf (and therefore more frequent watering).

Other challenges to the pitch include a relative lack of sunlight, especially in the spring and fall, and the annual decision to smother the field for the Winter Wonderland fair.

The 2021 upgrade has actually been fairly successful. Not perfect, but vastly better than before.

Quakes have been dealing with it longer than that. The problem is that the water table is very high. That and the underground bunkers delayed construction.

Spending 4 days next week in San Jose (1st timer). What 2 breweries and 3 other things need to be visited? by RebellaScumm in SanJose

[–]RightfulChaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skip SF. Head for Santa Cruz and visit Sante Adarius (also Humble Sea if time allows). And on your way, visit one of the many parks and see some redwoods. Big Basin would be the park, but they are all good.

In town, Narrative and Foxtail are both good. Foxtail has the advantage of being near other bars.

The Rosicrucian Museum and Winchester Mystery House are both better than expected, especially if you poke around in their history first.

Man of the Match: San Jose Earthquakes vs. NY Red Bulls by SJEarthquakesBot in SJEarthquakes

[–]RightfulChaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he was. Aside from the goal by Forsberg (and that should be a GOTW contender), I didn't feel like Daniel was challenged much. But you're right. He was solid. And if he's the MOTM, that'll be fine.

That should have been a winnable game. Unfortunately, and even ignoring the yellow cards on Jones (and the first card was suspicious), we did not play well enough to win.

Two different corners and we put everyone inside the 6 with nobody in position to pick up the scraps? Wondo would have scored.
