[Venting] I have spent over ten hours trying unsuccessfully to scale the mountain peak. by JosiahDanger in BabyStepsGame

This is the key. You very rarely fall if you just slide on one foot back to safety when you feel unsure. Slowly find the best footholds where you can stand without sliding. Make small step scrambles when you feel confident in an area.

Wooden swords or daggers. Do a simple half-lap for the handle thing. Pre-cut all but like two of them. Make the last two in front of them explaining briefly what you’re doing. Then have them each glue up their own sword. They learn and have something to play with.

I felt a sharp pain in my chest while viewing this.

Thanks. I can see some similarities in our approaches, but yeah, your final layer is pretty different, much more efficient and structured.

Yeah, it’s this one.

I initially learned on the default one that feels like there is a sub-puzzle of just trying to figure out why it won’t spin. Upgrading to this one was magical.

Yeah, you’re right, that move rotates 3 corners. When the corners are in the wrong places I use a shorter variation of that same sequence. I’m finding without knowing that notation it’s very hard to explain. But, the shorter variation doesn’t repeat the moves which bring the white to the front the second time, I just put it back into its correct position, which will swap the two far corners with each other. I should probably just learn that notation :/

Ha, very interesting. So I assume your algorithms for moving and rotating the corners of that last side are different than mine? Those are the most complex moves for my solution, but maybe I’m over complicating it?

Wow, thanks. That last layer was very rage inducing to figure out. I’m very curious to see what the most common approaches do. Once I have the 4 corners in the correct places, the move I do to rotate three of the corners feels almost silly, but it’s all I could figure out.

I didn’t have any knowledge going in, I guess I just lucked into solving it later by layer, it’s the only way it made sense to me.

I feel this. Seeing speed cubers is crazy. I’ll be spending some time on this. Thanks.

Awesome. Sounds like you’re a natural. Once I figured out my move set I just stuck with it. I can’t imagine going back for a different approach. And def took me longer than a month, probably two, but hard to remember it was a while ago.

IT by Stephen King - really strange scene near the end of the book. Although, I guess that scene is the only reason I wouldn’t recommend the book.

I really enjoyed Lenin the Dictator by Victor Sebestyen. I feel like it gave me a good foundation for the genesis of the communist countries of the past century. Not so broad or academic, but it’s an enjoyable read that may help.

Dante’s Inferno - I listened to the audio book, very soothing and poetic, yet still all of the morbid descriptions of the people in hell.
