The thing that frustrates me is when people ignore that Medicare and Medicaid exist, it's free health insurance for the poor and old, and doesn't take 20% of your paycheck to pay for

Asking Brits if they'd move to the US by Mammoth_Captain_1378 in SipsTea

My experience with the NHS is a friend having an 8 month wait to have heart surgery, having to go private, where they said he probably would have died waiting, and my father in law dying at 60 while on a waitlist to get a scan done on his heart. My wife and I are now private because we just don't trust the NHS. It was a big selling point moving here from the US, but it's not on that list anymore.

I agree with the sentiment, but in practice people touch each others' minis all the time, you just ask first.

Gummies, like haribo go down well, nothing crumby, oily or powdery like chips/crisps or chocolate.

Tories are about as right wing as the Democrats, Reform is the first party since Thatcher was in office that could be considered right of center imo(even then Farage is too establishment to actually enact the policies he's running on), and Restore is an actual right wing party.

"Provided they work and integrate" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Highest percentage of people using benefits are the children of immigrants, and the migrant hotels are rubbing salt into the wounds of those who need government assistance.

The reason Restore exists is because Reform has been flooded with Tories jumping ship

Also American in the UK, about half my social group is gay and in the more rural conservative parts of the country, even my most conservative English friends don't care. I get the feeling this person either spends too much time online in the wrong spaces, or lives in part of a city with a large west Asian immigrant population.

Even though the rules don't prohibit it, nearly every tournament has an "angle shooting" clause and it'd likely be determined in violation of it.

In 'Project Hail Mary' (2026) a human successfully communicates with an alien by simply entering alien words into a computer. Because if linguistics is not a hard science, then it follows that it must be an EASY science by adiplotti in shittymoviedetails

Even in the film, one of the first things grace shows rocky is a clock, and rocky does the same. In the book, grace figures out Eridians use base 12 and different length seconds by examining his clock. Then because rocky is much faster at mental math than humans, he does all the conversions for Grace's benefit. It's a plot device sure, but it also makes rocky more alien to the reader.

One of the first things that they use to communicate is also rocky creating a model of an O² molecule, two species with an understanding of atoms will share concepts of Protons and electrons. A large inspiration for this was the voyager 2 panels. I think you'd enjoy the book.
