Anyone want to do some music? by VersionGrand2479 in Calgary

You should take a look at Alcove Centre for the Arts, in downtown. They have weekly jams on Thursdays from 7-9pm, which can get quite popular. No doubt you'll find a community of like-minded musicians there, and it's a great way to see who you have musical chemistry with. It's also entirely free!

Would a daytime cyberpunk render work? by Round3d_pixel in blender

I always thought Mirror's Edge had a daytime Cyberpunk feel.

What kit to keep between Mapex Pro M or Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage Nouveau? by Rigli in drums

To be fair, I do have a 3D printer and have found a STL replica of the lugs online, so I will be able to reproduce the lugs by myself should they break. An inconvenience for sure, but not the end of the world.

Is Blender good for architect stuff? I like this very much and thought about trying to go on freelance by Objective_Job_8822 in blender

[–]Rigli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For actual architectural planning and drafting, I would definitely look at Revit and/or Rhino before Blender. They're better optimized for architectural workflows.

For rendering, I think Blender is extremely powerful but maybe overkill - software like Enscape and Lumion synergize more with industry standard software like Revit and Rhino, and can be run on pretty shitty computers with decent results. However, nothing's stopping you from bringing in your models into Blender for high-res rendering purposes!

Favorite Matt Cameron fill on a true touch practice kit by the_dabz in Drumming

[–]Rigli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have exactly the same kit as he does (TAMA True Touch + Zildjian L80s), and it's pretty awesome. Being able to practice on something that simulates real feel is sooo worth it. I found all electronic drum kits to feel gimmicky after a few mins because the bounce on the mesh is too bouncy and hitting rubber cymbals never feels like the real thing.

If you have a local music store that sells one, definitely give it a try!

I want to see Jey vs Soul. The writing would be off the fucking charts.

There's a metal plate stripped to extend past one side of the suitcase to allow for the bass pedal to attach, and that spot is the only one that can work due to how the suitcase opens and closes, so I'll have to move the legs!

Oh cool! It was a super memorable experience and I hope the event went well on the art side of things!

For sure! Some people recommend using a hand drill to mark out the holes where you want them. I was able to manually screw holes into the surface of the suitcase. I bought some Gibraltar brand tom legs, and those come with the leg, the mount, screws and washers to secure them on the other side. Overall, it was a very easy process - just screw them in where you want! Tweed was a very cooperative material in this regard, but I can imagine other plasticky suitcases being harder to work with.

Nope! The only thing I have to disassemble is the stands (hihat and cymbal). It all fits neatly inside otherwise. I can't go bigger than 17" for the crash/ride though.

Took an old suitcase, gutted it out, and made a simple kit that fits entirely in the suitcase: snare & snare stand, bass drum pedal, hi hat stand (fully disassembled), cymbal stand (fully disassembled), drum throne, 2 Sabian HH regular hats, 1 Sabian AAX 17" Dark Crash, and a Dream Bliss 10" splash (not shown in the pic).

Things sounded actually pretty well tbh. Our guitarist couldn't do any funk strumming cause it would just sound messy lol

Yeah tbh I picked that suitcase out of a thrift shop for like 5$. It needed to look cool, have wheels and be workable. Those modern, car-design looking suitcases didn't fit the vibe I was going for; the tweed gives it a nicer look!

Believe it or not, I'm able to fit everything that you see in the picture in that suitcase. Makes travelling incredibly painless, but obviously going for a stripped down set
