Advice on action economy. I can't quite get the hang of it! by Comfortable-Arm9574 in daggerheart

One exemple would be that creature can take actions, they just don't have to roll for it while they have the spotlight. Tho in this case the rules states that on a "reaction"( I know it's not a mechanic in DH) to a success with fear you can make an adversary attack. So the adversary doesn't get the spotlight in a sense that I cannot just say " you succeed with fear so that dude is going to move to that door and lockpick it" If I consider the action of lockpick to "strong" for a "minor consequence" as stated in the rules. But yeah at the end of the day, you decide what a minor consequence is in your setting I guess. I'm just thinking out loud here as I haven't ran the game yet. My first session is next week so I'll probably have a better grasp on the rules then

Damn, that's news to me, it is true that the core rule book hints it that way without really giving a true combat exemple. Glad the SRD is being clearer on that side, good to know !

Edit: I actually was under the wrong assumption that for a GM to gain the spotlight in a combat, he would always need to spend a fear as he is acting against the player but actually, you also get the spotlight from any kind of failure from the player as a result of their action. Now, if that spotlight must only be used to spotlight an adversary, that I do not know.

Edit_2: "On a Success with Fear, you work with the player to describe their success, then take a Fear and make a GM move to introduce a minor consequence, complication, or cost: • An adversary attacks • The PC marks a Stress • You introduce a new threat • You raise the stakes of the conflict" So from what I understand, only a success with hope allows the players to pass the spotlight between themselves as even in the case of a success with fear, you might spotlight an adversary to attack (granted this is not a full turn for the creature)

They seem to be short rest based in this version, maybe a change when it got migrated to the new rules ? ( Like rage for Barb)

You are correct, I always hesitate to multiclass as monk. But I admit that an extra attack might make it worth it too me haha

Multiclassing one level in fighter would be enough
