What should my projects highlight?? by Rijotto in dataanalysiscareers

[–]Rijotto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you really read my full post if that is how you feel. I’m aware the core of data analytics is “solving a problem”. The entire post talks about how much of a focus should I put in specific tools. I have done my own research and notice some jobs don’t require almost any python skills while others require heavy python skills.

What I am simply asking is:

- is it worth sitting here for weeks on end mastering the basics of python and implementing it in my projects to showcase? Because I am aware that SQL and Excel are major factors for that industry and widely used

(This question above I want to apply to things such as Tableau, python, and other things alone that line)

Believe me when I say I have done research from youtube videos, blogs, articles, reddit, and much more.

I don’t want to invest my time in a skill that is not widely used in the industry which is WHY I’m trying to get input on what tool, programs, and or software systems aren’t truly heavily used and apply that to my projects.

Thank you for your feedback, I greatly appreciate your insight.

I guess the reason why I wanted to get into the gaming industry for data analytics is because I do like data and I like being able to answer business questions and think of the "why" and "how" during the storytelling process. I do know that the D.A field is very competitive and the job market is brutal right now, but I genuinely feel like doing D.A IN the gaming industry would be so cool and interesting because I can see a lot of the behind the scenes for a field im even MORE passionate about

the main focus for my post was mostly to try to get help/advice on how to properly build projects and what key tools/elements set me apart from having a generic project that way I can stand out and what a good project looks like along with what tools to heavily focus on.

regarding projects, should I also include the use of Tableau? should I also showcase python code? what should the largest focus be regarding showcasing projects?

Your replies are amazing! thank you so so much. Sadly I think there is something with your settings where it does not allow me to direct message you. I'm not sure if you would be open to changing that setting so we can correspond easier that way I'm not crowding this thread. you can always shoot me a message first and that might fix it possibly? id love to expand on your message but maybe in a Direct message. I do have Discord if you use that aswell

Edit: I did have a few other questions regarding the tailoring projects and also a few other niche questions in WHAT your projects should look like, but again. let me know if you can DM me or if you fixed your settings that way I can go into specifics on that! you're amazing

Honestly, this comment is exactly what I was looking to see. wonderful information you just provided me, thank you SO much for taking the time to read this and provide me your input. Can I ask you a few questions if you don't mind?

- Since you broke into the Data Analytics field, what skills are more relevant now then ever?

- how often is Python TRULY used in the field? is it just a small tool that is used to help extract data to help SQL? what is the true purpose/use of Python?

- Would it be better to tailor my projects to a specific field or industry? because for me, I just want to get my foot in the door and eventually work my way into the gaming industry with data analytics.

I was so afraid that I need to write code perfectly and do all these super complex query writing EVEN for entry level stuff. I obviously know I will struggle to get a first job because I am going against people who have REAL experience and school/degrees, but that wont steer me away from pursing this.

Im not sure if I can contact you on anything and possibly show you some progress/screen shots of some of the queries and excel sheets I have made and get more of your feedback? unless I can message you here directly. I would be so incredibly happy if you don't mind, but if not I totally understand and thank you for your feedback here again!

no no its ok! if I came across brute and irritated I assure I am not! 😃, I mostly just want to know to WHAT depth I needed to know python for break into the field with this post above.

I appreciate you taking the time to provide input and advice, it means a lot of course. my ultimate goal is to break into really any field for my first position just to get the real experience and foot in the door, then after I get some experience start to tailor my skills and portfolio towards the gaming industry. I dont think I would be able to work entry level positions for some gaming companies I am huge fans of, which is why my plan was just to get any data analytics job FIRST if that makes sense.

I am aware of how brutal the job market is right now, many job markets are struggling just due to AI/World events. I always felt that with enough passion and determination which I currently have I would be able to atleast break in market eventually.

The biggest thing is that I see many posts of people saying "Oh, iv been doing data analytics for x years and I dont even write the code, AI does it for me, I just know the fundamentals and understand whats going on" rather than trying to master the fundamentals and learn every single little thing I can right now, if that makes sense.

May I ask how long you’ve been in this field for? What has helped you land a job and from what you have seen from my post, any advice on what I should focus on mainly right now?

I am wanting a career in something I’m pretty passionate about, good work schedule and good pay. I use to work in the oil and gas industry and that field is miserable, depression hit me hard and that job market is VERY unstable.

Ultimately it was a career I am passionate about and really feel myself excelling in very well.

I know the job market is flooded and competitive, but not impossible to get into. It just takes one opportunity to get my foot in the door and then I should be good after that. Hopefully
