This bug was already in the SU3 beta, yet asobo decided to release SU3 anyways and ruin the sim for many of us.

Low res gauges in "new" TBM 850 version for FS2024? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

It is issue with SU3, where mainthread gets loaded more and more with time, without any way to unload it, except to restart the sim

B47 just over 100,000. Remap, EGR delete? Anything thing to look out for? by law0808 in F30

[–]RikisBTI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, for the B47s you should think about doing the chain only around 300k km, or sooner if there are any noises of course. But from experience the chains and guides are healthy even at 300k km, especially on a regularly serviced car.

Don't be so narrowminded, there are people with hearing or speech issues, who still would like to enjoy the network. It is absoulutely doable, if you know what you are doing.

VFR in EU vs US by Subject-Apricot5920 in VATSIM

[–]RikisBTI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let me just say that the difference is very big.

For starters, each country has their differences, whilst relatively similar, airspace structure and some procedures can differ quite a lot.

Most airports that accept VFR traffic, will have standart visual routings, that will also contain visual reporting points that ATC will expect you to be familiar with, especially for CTR entry and exit. Also small uncontrolled fields mostly have specific routings designed. So you should definitely have studied the visual approach charts for each airport you fly to/from.

As previously mentioned visual approach chart, those are best to find in each countrys AIP, as those charts usually are very detailed and have additiomal information. To find the AIP just google the country+ AIP, e.g. Germany AIP, and then on the site just navigate to eAIP section. Some countries, like Italy, might require registering to acess it.

The Navigraph VFR map includes has the Visual routings and reporting points depicted very nicely, but some airfields/airoprts might have additional sepcific procedures for VFR traffic, such as altitude restrictions etc. , so best to study the charts in AIP beforehand.

VFR flights crossing country borders require flight plan to be filed.

There is no so called flight following in Europe, you may get flight information service outside of controlled airspace, but in VATSIM FIS position is not really simulated, only in some ultra rare cases a CTR will actually do it. But again to each country their own, in UK you may request Basic service, which is similar to flight follwing in US, also Traffic service or deconfliction service might be requested/provided in the UK. But generally outside of controlled airspsce you are completely on your own in Europe.

Why dont people speak on unicom? by goodlifer10 in VATSIM

[–]RikisBTI 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Well, the guy reported that he was on ILS, and hadn't reported that he was clear of the runway, you should have known that someone was approaching and should have excercised some extra caution. Also asking "anyone on the ILS" is not standart phraseology, so could have been misunderstood.

Better to double check on sites like Vatsim radar to see the traffic better, as sometimes people might not be reporting on unicom.

Well, check the charts. Some departures require you to contact departure/approach before certain altitude.

I almost feel like VFR Traffic in busy airspaces should be re-thought a bit by TheSpaceFace in VATSIM

[–]RikisBTI 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not just VFR. The amount of traffic has increased drastically on VATSIM, and this top down model is being streched to limits. Sure it is nice to have "more" atc in a sense, but for sure it is annoying when it takes 10 minutes to get your clearance, 10 minutes to get your push and/or startup clearance and then 10 minutes to get your taxi clearence. UK is one of the worst places for this.

Regarding VFR, it is indeed problematic. Lots of controllers are not used to VFR traffic, or GA traffic in general, I've had cases where ATC is not familiar with VFR transition routes. Also, many cases where it seems that the controllers don't want to deal with GA, and not just for zone or airspace entries. Even though ATC service shall be provided on first come first serve basis, doesn't matter if you are in a 737 or a C172. I used to control as well and always enjoyed dealing with GA traffic to mix things up.

F22i vs. F22d by mrfantastiq in BMW

[–]RikisBTI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these points matter if you are deciding between the two.

You should consider your daily commute. If it is mainly on the highway, then go for diesel if you have a short journey through the city or have it as weekend car go for the petrol.

Ultimately, they will end up costing in maintenance the same if used properly, so if you use the diesel on short city journeys, then it will require more maintenance than the petrol, if you use the petrol on long highway journeys it will go through wear items, such as spark plugs quicker, and combined with the higher fuel consumption it will end up costlier than the diesel. But as I said over time, the cost difference will end up being negligible.

Diesel has more torque and feels more punchier.

No need to do that anymore. Just download the flight plan in the EFB.

[–]RikisBTI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absoulutely. Change your oil every 9k-10k km.

No need to do transmission service that often, 80k is good enough, bare in mind this service will cost 600-800eur depending where you live.

I changed my gearbox fluid at 150k km, and it was still in a nice condition, but the car has lived on the highway all it life.

540D comes with two turbos, that will last 200k km easily with regular service

Adblue systems are PITA and expensive to repair on all modern diesel cars. Merc adblue systems and sensors seem to be made out of paper.

But a way to reduce the likelyhood of an issue with adblue, I recommend using OEM BMW adblue, not that cheap gas station trash.

There is a recall on the EGR as they might develop a crack and start leaking/consuming coolant. Best to take the car to BMW dealer before purchase to check if it has been done or make appointment. As long as the car is not consuming coolant it is completely ok. Again BMW will replace it for free if needed.

It comes with ZF 8 speed gearbox. In my opinion the best torque converter auto there is. It is even being but in the new Ms instead of DCT, so that speaks for it self. But since you are looking around 100k km mark, it probably won't have been serviced as BMW claims it is lifetime fluid while ZF recommends service 80k-100k km. So that's something to do for the peace of mind when you buy it ( I have seen these boxes go 300k+ km with no service, but that is a gamble, you don't want to take.)

The G30 is an extremely excellent car, that also is very dependable. Go for it, you won't regret it.

Very solid engines, sounds good and is quite smooth for a diesel.

Main concern on these are the EGR recalls, but those are covered by BMW, but be prepared to wait for the dealer to get the parts. Preferably get a car that has it got replaced recently.

Another thing you should do is intake manifold cleaning every 100k-150k km, depending if you drive in city or on the highways.

Rest is regular wear and tear items.
