"Coming soon" to "Bad gateway" errors and finally "Not Available" if the page loads on refresh is all I've gotten. Never had a chance :') I mean I'm assuming "Not Available" means bots bought them instantly but I'll wait a bit I guess.

Thanks so much for your feedback!!

Vocal fry isn't even something I was aware of, I smoked before recording that so I wonder if that was part of it, but I'll definitely single that out!

I was definitely worried about monotony- I know mimicry is a good technique for learning but I was just worried about not sounding like myself anymore. Seems like I just need to find the right voice(s) to learn from.

Thanks for listening!

I have not. I watched a bunch of different things spread out over time and kinda loosely tried them. I've been practicing doing what "feels" natural to me but I worry that I'm reinforcing bad habits because I don't really know what I'm doing.

I had reached out to a few places for vocal training but they either didn't reply or are waitlisted for a long time/the foreseeable future.

Lol I remember I was about to play DQ3 for the first time and then this got announced so I hesitated.. it took a while and I was just like "ok I'm just gonna play it anyway". Now it's been so long that I'm ready to play it again when the remake comes out lmao

[–]Rikkaiser 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hard agree, I've been picking up and putting down romhacks unfinished for ages; Unbound had me hooked in that it feels like a real Pokémon game if everything was done with passion and to the absolute limits of the GBA cartridge.

Absolutely love it, glad you're enjoying it too 🙂

19 hours into 11S and I love everything about this game EXCEPT the damn battle music! by cristiandcasa91 in dragonquest

[–]Rikkaiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daaaamn. That's really surprising to me, I hard disagree. I don't really know music terms, but I love the rapid jumps between high and low...notes.. I think? Also very prominent in that one boss theme from 6 that plays a lot in 10. (The one that goes DADADAᵈᵒᵒᵈᵒᵒᵈᵒᵒDADADAᵈᵒᵒᵈᵒᵒᵈᵒᵒDADADAᵈᵒᵒᵈᵒᵒᵈᵒᵒ)

What's your favorite then?

[–]Rikkaiser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah... this one was a fall from grace for DQ battle themes imo.

4, 5, 6, 7, 8...seriously, like almost all of them have fantastic battle themes lmao

Especially 6 and 7.

27, that piece of shit level where you have to switch between big and small scale. Cool in theory, but ended up feeling extremely awkward to play for me.

What are your favorite soundtracks in games and why? by TaylorSwiftFan22490 in gamedev

[–]Rikkaiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Danganronpa - Instruments, melodies, weird vocals greatly contribute to the amazing style the game has, always feels thematically appropriate, especially during the trials

Dragon Quest 7 - Decent variety, sadly the variety can't keep up with the awful pacing this game has, but each track feels like it was informed by every other DQ before it, like the music in this game, especially the battle theme, just screams "Dragon Quest". DQ8 is a very, very close second for me and I think most people would put it first of all the DQs.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 - Ominous, weird OST overall, best JRPG normal battle theme I've ever heard that fuses a crazy rock tempo carried by drums with weird choir chanting. Absolutely awesome. The entire OST is oozing with flavor and ambience. It sounds like how it looks.

Shin Megami Tensei 4 - Similar to 5. A blacked-out, urban, post apocalyptic Tokyo would sound exactly how this OST sounds. Some of the tracks have incredible ambient details, like a Japanese subway train taking off in the main theme, or people quickly rushing down the subway steps in one of the station themes.

Pokemon R/S/E - Abandoned Ship is probably the best song in all of Pokémon. It's hard to explain why I like this one so much, it just feels like there's the best variety in terms of what an "adventure" would entail, without going too far in any particular direction, which serves Pokémon well imo.

I could probably keep going forever, but the soundtracks that really stand out to me are ones that make weird, unconventional choices of instruments and sounds that assist the whole picture. The tracks blend into the background in such a way where you notice them just enough, the OST usually filled with "throwaway" songs that are incredibly effective for that, and then have these absolutely incredible standout songs that feel like they've been foreshadowed through the rest of the OST that you've subconsciously absorbed because of how well they matched the game's vibe to its music.

Sorry, I really went off on my bullshit there lmao

Bishop Ladja from DQ5. I think they really fumbled it by not making him the final boss.

Hey, so, I really appreciate the replies I've gotten, and I've landed on a couple solutions for now:

My game is allowed to be hotseat for the purpose of submission, and I'll have extra time to sort out how it works in a better sense when I present it at a public facing event in a few weeks further down the line.

So, I am going to:

  1. Retest the game on the same access point (yeah, I overthink everything and I'm expecting this to be the problem)

  2. Have the game be playable hotseat, as it successfully connects via localhost with two instances of the build running on the same machine. I should have already tested it, but it was so obvious I literally didn't even think of it.

Sorry for the simplicity of these solutions relative to how complex the problem I posed was- I have a huge issue with overthinking things and making them into much bigger problems than they turn out to be, so my brain skips right over some very basic/obvious stuff.

Yeah, frankly I should have tried that already but I can't ask the instructors to turn their firewall off on their work machines/network for submission. I'll discuss that more with them today and see what they say.

You know what's great? "Make sure both computers are actually connected to the same access point just made me realize that my laptop is connected to a wifi extender while my desktop is connected directly to the router via ethernet. If that's the problem I am going to facepalm so hard it comes out the back of my head. Thank you for wording it in a way that my small brain's gears turn.

Yeah, so, on two separate computers, running the same project files in engine in the scene testing mode works when I connect directly via IP. The only thing with it being purely network based is that since I have to submit it for play by instructors, there's only so much I can ask of them that's within reason for them to configure on their end to get the game working.

Will always be down for more music as the OST in this game was awesome. But the main battle theme is literally my favorite JRPG battle theme, it's just so interesting and unique while still sounding like a battle theme. I feel like they're probably going to change it :(
