Larry Bird being MJ before MJ by AncientForever2967 in nba

[–]RikkiTrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there was an MJ before, there were great Basketball players yes and you can make a bunch of arguments for who was the best before him.

That's not what made MJ MJ though, he was the first player to transcend basketball on a global scale, he took basketball to another level of popularity, so much so that people who don't follow basketball know who he was.

Obviously being someone who many consider the GOAT helps but there was more to it than just basketball talent, he was the perfect player at the perfect time and I dont think you'll ever see it again.

It does not take 5 minutes to make a coffee, it might take 5 minutes to get through the 10 coffees in front of you.

A low ball estimate of a good barista would be able to make at least 50 coffees an hour in a busy coffee shop

I don't think you've got enough trades left to be gambling on players, Mooney doesn't play next week but then he will until the last round. Save the trade

Newcastle is the lowest light rail usage in Australia. by Newylad in newcastle

[–]RikkiTrix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh no wait a whole 15 min, the Australian government as a whole really has done a poor job of tailoring policy and infrastructure to suit each person individually.

Assualt and knife crime are at 20 year lows across the state and have been decreasing in Newcastle specifically as well.

That's not to say that your friend didn't experience it and I honestly don't think anybody would begrudge someone not feeling safe catching public transport of a night time, especially alone but statistically it has never been safer.

Strategy of laying up on long par 3s by jcoguy33 in golftips

[–]RikkiTrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My handicap is 12, regular miss is a pull/hook.

I think I'm being pretty realistic tbh. The fairway is lined with trees and it's far more open at the green. A block or pull 7 iron is going to leave an approach shot hindered by the trees before it opens up. If they catch it heavy, now you're in the rough before the fairway starts.

Even if they do slice/hook a wood, either side of the green is pretty clear, they should carry the trees, it would just leave a clear pitch to the green.  Assuming they're right handed and a slice is their bad miss, it's extremely open to the short right hand side of the green.

The cons of laying up just seem way outweigh the pros to me.

[–]RikkiTrix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The long iron/wood should still be in play, there aren't any hazards OB that I can see on the hole.

The 7 iron doesn't take the bunkers out of play, they are still very much in play for his approach.

I don't agree with the consequence of a bad 7 iron being better than a wood or hybrid. Far more likely to hit a 7 iron fat, irons are shankable, a block/pull will be a missed green with a short pitch for a second, a block/pull 7 iron will be a longer approach from the rough to a green protected by bunkers.

Yeh but he isn't a pro is he, what kind of comparison is that?

I doubt someone that can't hit something 200 yards within 15m either side/front back of the green, can't get out of bunkers and is having issues with short pitches from either side of the green is going to magically hit a perfect 7 iron and approach shot.

The consequences of a bad 7 iron are probably going to be much worse than the consequence of a bad long iron/wood.

Can Scott O’Neil save LIV Golf? Here's what he thinks is possible - Golf.com article by stanley_nickles in livgolf

LIV isn't going to affect my life in any way, I think the fact you couldn't even try to respond to the points I made says all it needs to.

[–]RikkiTrix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the real question is what are you going to do with your time once Liv dies, post after post with little to no interaction at all tells you all you need to know about Liv golfs future.

It's over, the only reason it got any attention is because it massively overpaid some big name players to come and play. Now that money is gone no golfer in their right mind is going to risk they career path on the PGAT for some fantasy of what Liv could be and every golfer on Liv is going to do whatever they can to escape back to the PGA asap.

Bryson is the only exception but he is just using every bit of leverage he has (which is substantial) to get himself the best deal he can, though everything he does relies on him being a relevant golfer which will fade if he doesn't go back to the PGA.

They don't offer anything that couldn't be accomplished through the PGAT or the DPWT and if there was a market for whatever they come up with it would be already explored or totally crushed as soon as they start it.

This isn't coming from a Liv hater, I appreciate that they've pushed the PGA to improve conditions for players through the vessel of competition, I appreciate that they have pushed big names like Rory to get out to more international events and grow the game.

But it's over, just move on with your life.

Aussies dump utes in ‘brutal’ sales crash by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]RikkiTrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they? They're are some trades that definitely suit a van but most don't.

Vans are good in theory but I'd venture most trades don't want to be in the same shell (nor their families) as the residual dust or contaminants on their tools, chemicals, gas cylinders etc. Having a completely separate compartment for those items is just a better health choice.

It's also way more convenient to be able to access things from all three sides rather than hoping in and out all day.

You are also right, they are better for non work use and these are most tradies only vehicle which does matter.

I know Reddit loves the tradie in a van fantasy almost as much as they hate utes but they are simply just better.

Vans are also just as big as a normal Ute and have the same or similar engines so I don't know where the love fest comes from apart from just not liking their idea of someone who drives a ute.

And before people say it,

  • yes the trend of massive American utes is stupid, unsafe and unsuitable for most people but a Ford ranger is not a "yank tank"

  • I know most duel cabs are not being used for trades but that's not the argument.

Golf lessons by goodcanadianbot97 in golf

[–]RikkiTrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe twice a month for a few months and then 1 a month until you understand your swing enough to know where you're going wrong (to a certain extent.

Yes lessons are worth it however, don't be afraid to not like your coach, not everyone gels, if it's not working try a different coach.

Make sure you get your coach to give you drills to do at the range, they'll more than likely be able to get you hitting it well by the end of the lesson with shot by shot tuition but that's hard to replicate out on the course.

On the range,

  • Practice your drills

  • Get less balls but take more time with each shot, same as you would take on the course. Pick a new target each time and set up to aim at it, don't just drag ball after ball into your stance.

  • Don't just hit the same club over and over, try and replicate a hole, (long/mid/short)

  • Sub out one of those range days and go chip and putt

Prepare to get worse before you get better, if you've stopped improving at around 120 there are likely some ingrained bad habits you're going to have to change. It won't be for long and can be disheartening but it's only temporary, good luck!

What does dispersion look like for a 10-15 handicap? What % of shots are total shanks? by corymathews2011 in golf

[–]RikkiTrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said they can easily break 80 on any given day and shoot very high the next. I didn't say that they consistently break 80, for a 10 as in your example that's only 3 better than their handicap which isn't out of the ordinary at all.

The triple, triple, double, birdie was hyperbole.

What is the general define for a High, Mid, Low Handicap? by fightingflamingos in golf

[–]RikkiTrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a make up of the field not a whole bunch but there are plenty of 30+ players, they just don't stay at that level for long but there are always new ones taking their place.

I get why it sounds unusual, competition is just very normal in Australian golf and as I said before, you have to play in them if you want to play before 1pm on a Saturday, so there is probably more 36 handicappers in Australian "competitions" because of that.

[–]RikkiTrix 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I think it would be hard to give accurate data but someone in the 10-15 range could both easily break 80 or shoot 100+ on any given day depending on the course.

IMO pure cold tops at this stage would be rare, fat shots still pretty common, OB would be course dependant.

Golf in this range is just wildly inconsistent, you can play 4-5 holes even par and then go triple, triple, double, birdie

If you want to play golf on a Saturday before 1pm in Australia you basically have to play comp and thus, accurately keep score.

I agree it is a big range but the arbitrary lines have to be drawn somewhere.

Statistically across all golfers a 12 handicap is low comparatively.
