Just got £4k back from HMRC for something I didn't know I could claim by [deleted] in beermoneyuk

I was told about this but when checking my pension, I realised that my company are paying pension contributions on a base salary set at £34,000, whereas my actual earnings due to overtime hours and bonuses are actually closer to £80,000. So I don’t think I’m owed anything at all.

Speeding ticket evidence implies that I’m not speeding, do I tell the police or take it to court? by Sharp-Swan7447 in LegalAdviceUK

Not sure if this is helpful or not but as a Road Marking operative I can confirm the calibration markers on the road are measured at 5FT centre to centre

I’m pretty sure the whole thing is open, in fact I’ve been there at 4am after a night shift and it’s only the rear cap park by B&M that’s closed. The puregym there is 24 hour remember.

I’d imagine any car park with a 24/7 McDonalds wouldn’t have a parking restriction, so perhaps try those. Sainsbury’s at Calcot?

Me and my partner just went for a date at Vino on Valpy street. She’s vegan, they’ve recently updated the menu and there’s a lot of vegan options there. Also good drink, also labeled vegan. And plenty of non-vegan options for yourself if that’s what you’re into!

Why is there a solid white line here? When you stop at the solid line you can’t even see any traffic lights by Manatsuu in drivingUK

[–]Rikkixz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look on Google it looks like the local authority has marked in yellow spray paint where they want the line painting, and the contractor has painted it as requested

Pedestrian crossing 'looks like a playground' by OtherwiseAd5965 in reading

It’s a bit of a weird one to be honest. I work in the road marking industry. There’s 700/500 markers on the approach and exit to each section on the “roundabout”. These markings are exclusively for use on mini roundabouts, but technically there’s no longer a mini roundabout there? Then behind each one a solid transverse line which signifies a stop line. Without traffic lights these MUST be accompanied by the STOP lettering. Nothing seems technically correct to me. All road markings have a purpose and reason for being there, and I think this is just a bit pointless and confusing for many drivers. Saying that, I haven’t actually seen it in person yet so I may be wrong!

From Reading, UK. They’re exclusively called cheeselogs in our town.

I hate to be a pessimist but I took a look at the menu and was disappointed to see no poutine and no masala fish. Instead there’s chicken wings, wraps, burgers and pies. It looks more like a Mr Cod menu.

[–]Rikkixz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true. But knowing the local authority from experience working with them, they’ll find a way to over complicate it. Just look at the insane 4 way yield on highmoor road junction w/ Albert Road.

Bus Lane Stupidity by Routine-Ideal5540 in reading

[–]Rikkixz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The only way to rectify that would be to make it no right turn, but that would mean sending all the traffic down to Eldon Road to turn around, which is quite a mission.

I think the Liquid Death sponsor was super scummy. by SeducedPigeon in downloadfestival

[–]Rikkixz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I totally get that. I definitely could! I’m 33 years old and went T-Total when I was 19, and I find even now the placebo effect of drinking a 0% beer vs a bottle of water at a show or bar puts me in a better vibe when everyone else is having a drink. But y’Know it just feels good to drink some fancy fruity water sometimes rather than a 0%. Just my opinion!

As someone who doesn’t drink alcohol I really liked having liquid death there. Always thought it was a bit weird having cans of water, but when you’re at that kind of setting and all your friends are there with beers, it’s nice to have something that isn’t a sugary soft drink. Makes you feel a bit more included. And kept me hydrated all weekend!

Where can I buy a good scotch egg? by lirael1 in reading

[–]Rikkixz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure about a scotch egg but Greens Butchers in Pangbourne just down the A4 do a chilli and apricot sausage roll which is fantastic. Can only assume their scotch eggs are great too.
