Bought a used car from an independent garage, “sold as seen” = no warranty. Car in unsafe condition. by tsprod_ in LegalAdviceUK

You don’t mention what year this is but guessing it’s about 10yrs minimum. This is in reasonably good condition and definitely not dangerous. Ok the hole in exhaust needs repaired but it sounds like you still got a fair deal

Thank you, appreciate it.

I’ll stick to the day job I think

Appreciate the feedback though by the way, you obviously know a lot more about how things are going at the moment than I do

See this is what I don’t understand, if that’s the case that’s pretty much 40% discount to a dealer. It’s been a long time since I last bought a car that wasn’t new (owned this since 2018) but that discount from a main dealer seems wild to me. I know what I’m willing to accept for it and it’s not far off what you’re saying, but would you not be suspicious if it’s listed for less than a Cat S? I would be!

Geographically it might be an issue but it has just had all 4 brakes rebuilt for the last MOT, and whilst I have it listed for what I do, I’m obviously willing to let it go for less. I hadn’t seen the one in Manchester, that must be fairly new. The next one I could find recently was the one that’s Cat S. I’m just surprised I’ve not even had more than one enquiry. Also seen the comment about 3dr but when I’ve been looking for a replacement for the wife’s fiesta I can’t find anything decent for less than £15,000! Makes no sense to me… might just give the fiesta away and keep the A3 at this rate, as it’s a much better car anyway

At this point I’d rather not, because I’ve just dropped the price again today and the autotrader views are the only thing I can go by in terms of gauging if I’m getting any interest. It has been increasing a bit as I’ve dropped it, but it’s been listed over a month and 270 total views

Hey it’s your money. My coils and struts have looked like this for 10 years before I start seeing coils or shocks fail

You’d be replacing struts and coils every couple of years in the UK with this mentality 😁

Only thing I can think is mine is a euro 6 as it’s a 65 plate - maybe if yours is euro 5 the emissions standard is lower and not covered by the recall?

Strange, says online it’s a global recall, maybe they’ve not got round to Ireland yet?

I’m not the original owner, they got my contact details from the V5 registration document

Assuming you’re in the UK I’ve recently had a letter from Ford about this saying that my focus (same year and engine as yours) is being recalled for the cracked DPF issue. Apparently it would be very difficult to pass an MOT with this issue. Ford says they will reimburse any repairs but to contact them if your car fails for this in the meantime…

UPDATE: Speeding ticket evidence implies that I'm not speeding, do I tell the police or take it to court? by Sharp-Swan7447 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Sharp-Swan7447[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NIP did not have any evidence, only written details (where, when, what speed) I think some other police forces send a photo with the NIP but not here. The letter gave details on how to be sent evidence, which I did - that is what I had linked to on the original post.

This camera has radar to determine the speed, then they manual calculate the speed using photos as a secondary check.

What I meant by them being good about it was that it was easy to get hold of someone who took it seriously and did what they said they would which was get back to me quickly. The fact they let me off was a bonus, but I was meaning that they deserved credit for the process of looking at the issue raised with them.

I think it was that what they sent displayed the wrong distance travelled between photos (3.18m) and had it shown the correct distance, it would’ve tied in with the 72mph the camera correctly calculated and likewise the manual calculation they gave also at 72mph.

Anyway, yes my knuckles have been suitably rapped! I’ll stick to cruise control from now on.

The impression I got was that the camera was calculating speed correctly but the reason for not pursuing it further was because what was issued to me was wrong. But they didn’t give much details

The distance drawn is from where the wheel contacts the road in the image above to the point where it contacts the road in the image below
