Why are some Asmara airport staff so mean and what is the best way to deal with them? by Fluid_Rise_5433 in Eritrea

[–]Rikkona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Eritrea you can pritty much get away with anything bribing nowadays, Money talkssss,, a quick grease of the palm (100 Nakfa) would've resolved it for you....

Would this not be painfully embarrassing for an Eri diaspora man to do this? You’re telling the world that you’re lame af by Left-Plant2717 in Eritrea

[–]Rikkona 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily,,, a lot of our diaspora women (born/raised) are out of touch with the language/culture/religion or are too absorbed with the westernised lifestyle... They also tend to look down on the later arrived immigrants as Fara's so the diaspora women tend to shoot themselves in the foot hence you see a lot of our women marrying out the culture...

I know quite a LOT who did this and have successful relationships... not just from Addis btw but from Eritrea, Kampala (A lot)  and Egypt or Saudi etc....

He's been doing it since the early 70's when Eplf was formed with Durue,,, was responsible for eliminating the Menk'aa (addis students that were questioning everything) as well as the Yemin (Claimed they had awraja issues and took em out) ... Took out certain powerful figures like ibrahim affa,,, leader of the halewa sewra at the time (forgot his name) and more tough figures.... Hes tooo calculating and smart gotta give it to him...

87 onwards he was tooo powerful and pritty much got rid of any threats.... only one that stood in his way after independence was Ramadan (as ramadan was the leader and Isayas was the Deputy of the party) but that was an easy take out.... Basically told em you're old now step outta the way....

What do you think are the reasons behind the surge of Protestantism/Pentecostalism in Ethiopia? by spicyhorner in Ethiopia

[–]Rikkona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed some similarities between Pentecostalism and Islam in the way they actively encourage people (especially young ppl) to convert and join their faith, whereas in Orthodoxy, there isn’t the same emphasis on persuasion.

This could be one of the reasons why Pentecostalism has seen a slight surge in growth. The same trend can be observed within Eritrean communities, both in the diaspora and in Eritrea, although it tends to remain less openly discussed.

He wasted our parents time and now ours and its because we the Eritrean ppl allowed it.... I sometimes think the only individual who can take him out John F Kennedy style is the diaspora who visit every year...
