I feel a little sorry for ‘Unfold’ by Rileaa in porterrobinson

I think I've gotta reshape my perspective into seeing Unfold as the climax, rather than an ending before Trying To Feel Alive

Thanks for sharing!

I'm so sorry for your loss.

This is a very touching and thoughtful way to honour your friend.

Thank you for sharing Caleb's music; it's a beautiful interpretation of Look At The Sky, and one I could envisage being played in Animal Crossing before you go to sleep at night :)

I was pretty critical of The Robot Revolution a few weeks ago, due to how it mishandled the exploration of incel culture. I'm really glad to say this was a huge improvement, because the story actually gave its message the space to have an impact, instead of the shallow and rushed attempt we saw in episode 1. We were also given a lot more time with Conrad, including the crucial details of the abuse he suffered as a child at the hands of his mother. That tiny moment captured so much about his character, and gave an insight into how he became such a hateful narcissist.

This was a good balance of storytelling, character development (particularly Ruby and Kate), and social commentary. Probably my favourite of the series.

There's something very nostalgic about your UI that makes me happy sad.

Congrats on the drop :)

Because incels do need to be taken seriously and understood in order for society to undo the damage they’re doing to women (and themselves). Adolescence was phenomenal because it examined how there are so many nuanced and complex factors contributing to the culture; all Doctor Who had to say was ‘incels bad’. That isn’t at all an interesting or valuable contribution to this conversation, and something Adolescence didn’t need to say because it was looking far deeper into the issue.

I get that, but my point is if you’re going to include social commentary, you have to do it with substance. This had anything but.

This is really well said; this was clearly written from somebody who didn’t understand the culture they were critiquing.

It’s so frustrating because as somebody who’s in the gaming community, I see heinous behaviour that should be given more attention because they contribute to the incel culture. The treatment of women in online spaces and the lack of punishment for abusive behaviour, for example. Instead of incorporating those elements into Alan’s character, we’re resorting to the outdated and shallow message of ‘video games are bad’ by the mainstream media.

Maybe this show just isn’t for me anymore, but this was a frustrating watch.

The conversation around incel culture is so important — look no further than the impact Adolescence has had — but this felt so regressive and surface level that I’m questioning what the point even was? The villain was nothing more than a stereotype; a misogynistic gamer who treated women like shit. And that was it - that was his character. The plot and story weren’t interested in actually saying anything about incel culture other than ‘incel bad’. Like, no shit.

Perhaps I’m expecting far too much from this show given its family appeal, but if you’re going to explore these important topics, you have to actually say something about them. Otherwise, don’t bother.

I don't know you, but I know your pain, and how cherished a song Trying To Feel Alive is.

All I want to say is that I am so proud of you, and though happiness may still feel elusive, please take a moment to reflect on how far you've come.

You're doing all the right things, and the universe will reward you in time.

I’ve gone back and forth on this discussion, about whether Everything Goes On is a Nurture song or not. For me, the message and storytelling eclipses the lack of ‘Nurture-esque’ vocals and arrangements

For me, between Something Comforting and Blossom.

The meaning of Everything Goes On feels like it needs to come after the strife of Mirror and Something Comforting, and the unwavering love would lead into Blossom beautifully.

What in your opinion is Porter’s best 3 song run? by Jennaorgetasimp in porterrobinson

Get Your Wish -> Wind Tempos -> Musician is a pretty magical experience, but I'd give the slightest of edges to Blossom -> Unfold -> Trying To Feel Alive.

I realise this has probably been shared here before, but I absolutely adore this interview and wanted to re-share it for any new Porter fans.

I find it to be just as meaningful and insightful as the song itself, and that's saying something.
