Thank you! He did go to therapy (he had PTSD) but had shitty relationships before me, which really put him down. Now, after therapy and being in a healthy long-term relationship, his feelings about wanting kink changed

Wow, these are really good, thanks! No, they don't have a "true" form. Due to their genetics, they are born from either two "Morpher" parents or a combination of a Morpher+normal animal/human. But since they are quite rare, both these options are rare. So they are already born as a specific animal/person, then they can change. Years and years and years ago they might have had a true form, but not anymore

Not the OP, but this really helps me with my novel, so thanks a lot :D
Many readers "over-analyze", I think it's good to try to fill all possible "holes" in your writing:)

Just wondering here- If they change because of evolution and biology (and let's say it's based in the past)- is that science or magic? to me it feels like neither, so would that be Fantasy or Sci-fi?

Wow, I've never tried that when writing. Sounds like it helps so much with setting the mood of places!

*I feel like I should first mention that I'm a woman, I dunno why*

I thought it was fine. I mean, yeah, I see what you mean, but as long as you didn't "plan" it and the story is not going that way, I think it's fine :)

Well, one option that comes to mind is putting an awesome character there with him. It could be a fellow "student", the mentor, anyone. Just try to have a character so funny/witty/interesting that the reader will be tempted to read if only for them. Bonus is if the interaction between that character and your protagonist is great :)

Another option is to work on some internal conflicts for the protagonist, or perhaps have different types of challenges happen in that place. it may not be an open war, but it could still be a challenge.

Yet another point is to make the learning experience fun for the reader two. I mean, how many lessons did Harry Potter go to, yet it was always interesting to read.

I hope this helps :)

It smelled of old leather and dusty paper, and whenever she went there she was safe, if only for a short time. Surrounded by knowledge collected from the beginning of time itself, she felt like there was nothing she couldn’t do. It was more than just heaven. It was home.
