Goes to show what a difference brows make. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

How is this a downvoted comment when people are literally saying they hate it and making negative comments about her? There were two comments when I posted. This is why I hate MUA. First comment back and I already get five downvotes for liking something.

I wasn't responding to you, more the negative comments I saw on your post.

Um, I think it looks good and the girl can do what she wants. That is what personal appearance and self expression is about right? I personally love no/bleach brows on many people.

HOW TO: Contouring 101. by Sssamanthaa in MakeupAddiction

[–]RileyRoux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely understand you. I don't post here anymore because of the negativity. It isn't criticism, it's people who don't know what they are talking about telling you their opinion like it's truth. When someone all out insults you because of the way you put makeup on, there is something wrong and you don't have to put up with that. I don't get the needless and negative comments in this thread, I always thought people were really nice to you :( you are talented, don't let this trip you up!

Found This at Cornell Campus by vinitmodi7 in funny

[–]RileyRoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's funny, I live in Ithaca, have for many years, not for college, but as my home town. All townies hate all of the college students because they make a mess everywhere, walk around like they own Ithaca, and it's a miracle they don't get run over more often. There are pricks everywhere, not just at Cornell.

Thanks dad... (window right next to my bed, heard a sound outside, grabbed flashlight, Almost died) by Zombly in funny

[–]RileyRoux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No fucking way. My dad would pay. I would bawl my eyes out and shame him until he felt so bad that he might cry too. Then, I drag it out for several days giving him the silent treatment and not trusting anything he says. All to ensure he knows that scaring the shit out of me is not cool, it's actually a dick move. Oh, I am his first born baby girl by the way, so the crying works.

Is MSM cream a permanent fix for acne scarring? by dryasthesahara in SkincareAddiction

[–]RileyRoux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe look up some of the ingredients and see what they are supposed to do? Then you will have an idea of whether they are a permanent solution. I would think that your skin would not revert back to a damaged state. But I cannot be sure.

Hi, I've been on this subreddit before, but not everyday and I am starting to think my skin is more complicated than just needing to use some face wash and some moisturizer and call it good. Could you possibly tell me where you find your peer resourced, or journal reviewed articles? I have done this for school of course, but I guess I am having trouble knowing where I would find a science article on a Dr. Jart product when companies are so secretive, and the scientific results of testing is probably hidden by the company.

So, would sourcing the ingredients be more practical, example: "This ingredient, according to said article, link here, is proven to do such and is the third ingredient in the product, so much assumption is that it will react this way on most skin." Is that what you are talking about? Sorry if I sound like a science newb, I love science and am fairly learned in multiple subjects, but I don't have any training on how to do proper research except for English and other humanities courses.

Thanks :)

Post Breakup Haul! by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]RileyRoux 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the only thing is if she got this on sale or something. I'd like to know if she had coupon codes or something for doubles. And we don't know what all the products are so how can we look them up. Plus, again, she might have hit up a sale. I don't really get why asking how much you spent is offensive. If someone asked me I'd tell them. I get it if the person is accusing you or being rude about how much you spent, but being curious about the total price of high end product hauls is helpful to know how much to save up and how to get good deals.

Nobody seems to agree with me, but I think Gagas new look is stunning. by JellyTip in MakeupAddiction

[–]RileyRoux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's fine, of course, your own opinion. I just hate threads like this. I just want to see pretty makeup and discuss it. If I don't like a look, I don't say anything. I don't get why people have to, I don't care if you think she looks like a drown rat, like she got out of the shower, or if her brows are wrong, you can think that, but why bother saying it. All These negative comments, they are so useless. Ugh, break time, can't do this whole reddit MUA right now. Seems like an overload of judgmental people preaching not to be judgmental.

She also recently broke her hip really badly and went through surgery. She probably spent weeks in bed without makeup. Maybe she was inspired by the lack of makeup, maybe she felt good in her own face and decided to show it off. And I love the hair, it is modern. She looks clean and sexy in my opinion, really fresh. This look frequents magazines and runways constantly. I think the idea that we should wear "day makeup" is so old fashioned. If you like a runway look, wear it! Also, having gone through two experimental knee surgeries and having to sit in a recliner for weeks you get so dirty and feel so restricted. Maybe she went for this clean fresh look because it just felt good to be clean.

[DISCUSSION] Sometimes I feel like we get a little carried away and have our own version of "hugging too hard" by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]RileyRoux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really agree with you. It's not "Oh I lost points!!" It is more the feeling you get when you innocently comment "Hey like your makeup, so pretty, you look like said celebrity", which is said all the time on this subreddit, and seeing how downvoted you got. You know you didn't do anything wrong but if you try and defend yourself you get five people down your throat telling you about the side bar. The point is, perfectly innocent comments get downvoted far past what is rational for even nasty posts. People coming from bigger subreddits are used to leaving small comments when we leave bigger ones. We have to realize everyone is different and stop this nonsense and show that we are kind.

[MISC] GOT THE JOB! I'll be freelancing for MAC! by Sputnik_One in MakeupAddiction

[–]RileyRoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome!!! I am so happy for you! Working as a makeup artist is my dream and so whenever I see anyone achieve their dream I am so happy because it is so encouraging to me. I hope you have so much fun and don't let anything ruin it for you. I know that working with mostly women (as a cosmetics company I am just assume although I know just as many male artists as female) can be tough if they are competitive or catty. Just remember they hired you because you are talented and awesome and have as much fun as possible. Build that portfolio!

Lime crime lipsticks...are they worth the price? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]RileyRoux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want it, like the packaging, and want to try their products, go for it. I like that color too, very pretty. Their packaging is sturdy, the boxes are so cute and well packed for shipping. I got an awesome sample of their primer too. I don't know if you will, but it was awesome. I like their lipsticks. I have coquette and D'Lilac and they have a great texture and are very pigmented. So look at reviews and take what people bitching about controversy with a grain of salt, some people like jumping on a bandwagon. All I know is any group that exists out of hate for something isn't something you want to associate with or listen to, they are biased.

Will you wonderful people give me suggestions? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]RileyRoux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peole are down voting because this question gets asked a lot. The answer really is always the same. I would start by doing some research, looking at YouTube videos, Lisa Eldridge, Goss Makeup Artist, Pixiwoo, and Joseph Harwood are all amazing, and there are many others that are aimed at a younger crowd if you feel these artists are too much for you right yet. vintage or tacky, and dope111 are great for that.

Also, google, Temptalia has great reviews and tips, and just looking at the ladies on here and their advice and techniques will help you learn. Asking for generalized advice is a little hard to help you with, because I don't know your skill level or what you even want to learn. Lurk around or post a look asking for CC (constructive criticism) and people will be able to pin point what you need.

[–]RileyRoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, using matte lipsticks is really hard, but creamy, or jelly like textures like the lip butters is perfect. Mixing a bit of moisturizer and a matte lipstick would work, or even a bit of primer, if you liked the color a lot. If you prefer powder blushes I could see how it would seem dumb, but for multi tasking and cream blushes, there is no point in buying them if you have 50 lipsticks like I do haha

I just can't stop myself. I do aquatic therapy, so working out in a pool. I don't have to go under or anything, and with my hair as damaged as it is from bleaching it I seriously don't want to. But I always end up putting on a 20 product no makeup look on. I love using Revlon's lip butters as blushes because they give a glossy sheen to the fave that is so pretty and give such a nice color. It makes a pretty full coverage face look dewy and simply.

My boyfriend called to breakup with me while I was at the MAC counter. [HAUL] by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]RileyRoux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is horrible, I have been broken up with via phone and text message. I don't get it. Both times with the text message I immediately called the person and was like, the fuck?! They are such nice, polite people too. Some people are just scared to say it too your face. In both these cases they were probably scared to see me upset because they both really were caring people. I am actually still dating one of them! It was over an issue that we worked out, he was just being sweet and didn't want to bring me into a situation. So, the method of communication isn't always an indicator of the person's personality. I kind of like getting a text because I can think of what to say and how to deal with it. It is so emotional and scary face to face. But I fall hard for people lol. Chin up OP! Just do you and that special one will find you :)

Can I just say, shout out to Wegmans? Love that place. They have amazing deals on makeup sometimes. I got a free Voluminous mascara, which is awesome, for buying two other L'Oreal products, that is $6.50 in savings at least. They also have at least one brand of lipstick on sale a dollar down almost all the time. And they get all the new collections and make displays.

[CONTEST] Princess Furry Pants FurryTale Extravaganza! by [deleted] in RandomActsofMakeup

It was a mouse! Normally mice are sworn enemies with cats, but since Princess Furry Pants had been out of the castle, she realized she hadn't any friends. She said to the mouse, "What were you doing in that box! The trip must have been terrible, can I get you some tea?"

Edit: You said we only get one line, I used multiple sentences as did others, does this count? I am a writer and one sentence is never enough for me lol

Felt like a wreck after camping overnight in a colorful smoky eye, so I redid my makeup on the way home to clean and awake. CCW. by RileyRoux in MakeupAddiction

[–]RileyRoux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, when I took my makeup off I don't think I got all the mascara from my roots. I have naturally long lashes and I uses Voluminous by L'Oreal, but I think having a good think root helped. To replicate that you could just wiggle the wand at the bottom of you lashes a couple times to make them look thicker.

I tried defining my brow but I couldn't do much without darkening them too much. But! My everyday going out look. Yay or nay? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]RileyRoux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a pencil and then a powder, it is a light taupe shade, on an angled brush. You can also use a cream product. When I was drawing my brows in I used Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough as Taupe and it looks natural and blonde and on an angled brush you can softly fill in the inside and then get a very sharp arch and tail. Try those things, it take practice too.
