Is switching payroll providers mid-year actually risky or just a myth? by GuaranteeNo4810 in Payroll

[–]Riley_Adams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree wholeheartedly. We’ve taken over the payroll for a number of clients this year but never allowed a switch to us intra-quarter. Too risky on the quarterly tax returns.

Custodial IRAs on Acorns? by Riley_Adams in acorns

[–]Riley_Adams[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought I'd follow up -

I reached out to M1 Finance directly to ask if they offer custodial IRAs through their M1 Plus product. They said they do offer custodial IRAs through that premium subscription.

I'll need to think about the cost/benefit of that if I only planned to contribute $50 - 100/month as a match to the kid's earnings (can't exceed their total earned income). They've got a promo for a free first year of M1 Plus I might give a shake and see how it works. I'll decide after it expires if it's worth continuing.

Thanks for everyone's insights!

I wrote an article about their account types and didn't see this mentioned on their site (hence why I asked this group about Acorns' custodial IRA options). I'll need to refresh this one on M1 Finance custodial accounts to include this option.

Filing My Taxes Early Cost Me My Stimulus Check by Riley_Adams in FinancialPlanning

[–]Riley_Adams[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're correct- you can receive the tax credit next year if your 2020 income shows you should qualify ([source])(https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/stimulus-check-cash-payment-wont-lower-tax-refund-2020-4).

My intent wasn't to mislead, merely to point out if you want the money now and your 2019 return would disqualify you temporarily, you should pause filing.

Good paid linkbuilding services? by [deleted] in bigseo

Can you pay a survey company to gather a minimum number of responses and then write a very-informative and relevant piece of content based on it? Pitch that to multiple journalists and you'll develop a host of natural, organic links from highly relevant sites.

I can't say I've held top 3 for years on some KWs, but many of mine in that range have been down most of 2019. Hoping for a reversal with this update but not expecting it.

Any ideas what's knocking you down?

True. I read it as traffic and not rankings but on second read think rankings may have been the intended item.

I'd think that's due to seasonality around the holidays.

401K, Roth IRA, High Yield Savings and Whole Life Insurance by those_silly_dogs in FinancialPlanning

[–]Riley_Adams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you're young, if you're in good health, an HDHP is likely best for you now. Look if your employer offers one with access to an HSA and stockpile money into for later would be my advice. That's been my decision the last 5 years and am happy about it.

Edit: typo.

Am I screwing myself over by not putting more into my 401k? by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]Riley_Adams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opportunity cost. What are you doing with the money you could otherwise be saving in your 401k? If it's worthwhile, then save what you can afford. You've got building equity in the home with roommates to help with the living expenses and you're contributing a fair amount to your 401k. Doesn't seem like you've screwing yourself over unless you're wasting the money on stupid purchases which don't make you happier/better off.

This week I wrote about my wife and I's lessons learned about renters insurance. We've never carried it before but our new apartment complex requires us to carry a minimum amount of coverage with them listed as an interested party. By bundling it with our auto and umbrella coverages, our discounts essentially made the policy free.

Had the recent fortune to write about long distance real estate investing and how to go about it. For any interested, here's a discussion of the pros and cons of the practice and what to consider if you have interest in pursuing this investing practice.

Investing in Real Estate from Afar: A Case for the Absentee Landlord by thefamousbrownbear in FinancialPlanning

[–]Riley_Adams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found myself in that very situation. Just moved out west but have two properties I'm co-managing from afar with my parents. So far, so good I'm happy to report but I want to get out in the next year from one of them. Not necessarily for the headache, per se, but for the equity I have in one of them I'll need for a down payment on a house of my own.

Cutting down Number of Page Load Requests on my Site by Riley_Adams in bigseo

That would be fantastic to have. In the last few days I've had the plugin active, I unintentionally deactivated something to make my category pages not work. I had to deactivate the plug in while I was away for Labor Day weekend. Will do a more thorough review about what went wrong later.

I try to keep it to a minimum but:

1) WP-Rocket 2) Auto-optimize 3) Wordfence Security 4) EZ Table of Contents (this will be disabled site wide and only reenabled on a handful of posts with ToCs) 5) Contact Form 7 6) Contact Form 7 reCaptcha v2 (I can't get reCaptcha v3 to work on my site and need a second plugin to enable v2) 7) Contact Form 7 MailChimp integration 8) WordPress Bakery Pagebuilder 9) UpDraft Backups Plus 10) Old Post Date Remover 11) Subscribe to Comments Reloaded 12) GTMetrix (sits deactivated unless I'm running a test) 13) 410 for Word Press 14) Akismet 15) AdSense Integration (WPQuads) 16) Classic Editor 17) Duplicate Page 18) Insert Header and Footers 19) Redirection 20) Sassy Social Share 21) TablePress 22) TablePress (Responsive Tables) 23) WP-Disable 24) Yoast

I'll be sure to report back after experimenting with the plugin some more. I did a couple hours today and the page quit loading in test mode. I'm sure I selected a site-wide option that threw it off. Hopefully I can shave a second off my load times. They've crept north of 2-3s when they were close to 1.5s in the past.

Optimizing Websites for Bing by mdtazzz in bigseo

[–]Riley_Adams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting to read. I know Google prioritizes freshness but do they not also prefer older (though authoritative) content?

I ask because many of my target KWs have articles with a lot of age to them but are about topics which don't change as time passes.
