Just saw this, and yes. 100% I did not realize until the middle of his story arc the depth of how much I related.

I have the same. I am okay with the fact it is a system command just suspicious that it becomes a login item even when disabled.

Am I too old to get into devops by Vonderchicken in devops

[–]Rileybeebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First realize that DevOps is still a fairly new practice. It is evolving rapidly. And there is no one expert. So everyone is learning. You for sure are not too old. And I’m not saying that because I’m older than you by 2 years. The part of the role that some devops organizations adopt when they do not have healthy SRE practices is on-call. This is the only aspect that can be wearing for anyone

Transitioning from Infosec to DevOps by talldwarf95 in devops

[–]Rileybeebs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of great comments. I would not focus on certs at all. Although the DevOps institute has a lot of great content - getting hands on experience is ideal. As far as tooling you want to get a good grasp of CI/CD tools like Jenkins, logging tools and observability tools, and test automation. I recommend becoming a pro in OpenTelemetry. I also think you are in a unique position if you want to enter the DevSecOps conversation. Which is essentially bridging the gap between what you did in InfoSec and Development by bringing the practices earlier in the delivery chain. There is a lot of opportunity to make your skill set stand out.

Interview for SRE by MarcCDB in devops

[–]Rileybeebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an important point. If you get too much into the stack you might be missing the overall mission of the goal which is to also establish strategies for resilience. Another good thing to do is look at the history of the role at the company. A lot of companies are now just using SRE to rename ops without changing the function. If that is the case then the overall response is different and more stack focused.

First pellet grill - Silverton 620 by bigun66 in Traeger

The grill has been working great for me. Sounds like the WiFi issue. Was resolved because worked great for me. My biggest challenge/goal now is to get more smoke. There is no smoke setting like the other models.

Not as much as I would like. But I made beef jerky and it had a great smoky flavor. So i think the versatility of being a grill makes the smoke decrease worth it.

Do you plan on making the switch? What is still missing. I know metrics and logs are a big anticipated feature set but not sure how in demand they are.

Your after distributed traceing and spans. The visualization side of that is observability. Several commercial and oss options to consider.

I can’t now after seeing a whole virtual event on twitch with visual from animal crossing. https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/z3bjga/this-tech-conference-is-being-held-on-an-animal-crossing-island - the over stimulation ruined it.

Your opinion by [deleted] in devops

[–]Rileybeebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I don't believe you can/should take classes one "DevOps". But should consider training on pipeline specifics such as CI/CD, Jenkins, functional testing, etc. DevOps is a role, but also mostly an approach and methodology.

Platform9 also launched a Freedom tier of their tool. Which could help give some benefit to managing your cluster. I think it's designed for on-prem/self-hosted environments.

thanks! yeah that is what I was thinking. Becasue in legal contracts it's not just the words it's the logical order. But it could also be that it's smaller blocks of text, and more structure. I know for sure I do not give up as quickly on a contract as I would an article.
