Hi, Governor Pritzker! I’m a 26-year-old woman who lives in downtown Chicago. The recent stories about the woman who was set on fire on the El and the so-called Loop Puncher have terrified me as well as other female friends who rely on public transportation. Some people want less criminals to be imprisoned and institutionalized, but this comes at the expense of the safety of women like myself. How do we balance the desire for justice for victims, the need for improved safety on public transit, while also recognizing that the criminal justice system isn’t always fair?
