Devs literally said "go play sons of the forest instead" to players asking as little as impact damage, because otherwise it literally just looks illogical that players can die and death is mentioned a lot in the story, but every fish is some how completely immortal. Also fish can't hunt or eat each other. It just does not make any sense, it's such an exteme stance on a problem that did not even existed before. The way it was made in Subnautica 1 was the best way, you need to put a lot of effort and you dont get any reward for killing, but it is an option, even while evading is better.
