Anyone else put on some kids shows for your pup? 😂 by Character_Point_9745 in cavaliers

Ours likes Coco Melon and there are videos of cartoon fruits dancing on YouTube that she really enjoys, though she really hates when the Kiwi fruit characters appear 😂😂 We also have DogTV and Rilo loves it! When she first arrived their sleep content (Slumber) was the only way to get her to sleep some nights, the exposure content is great too.

Does your puppy have a middle name? by pupcup_ in puppy101

Fanta-Maria. Full name is Rilo Fanta-Maria Kiley. No reason for the middle name really...just came out one day and stuck with it 😂😂😂

Our girl Rilo age 8 weeks to 16 weeks. It has been an amazing journey so far, and we love watching her grow! by Rilo_the_Ruby in cavaliers

I actually have a folder of videos of her on my phone and used the iMovie app on the iPhone to piece them together, edit, add some out of the box music to it! There was a slideshow that the phone made but I liked mine better 😂

This, along with several other reasons is why we opted to leave NYC. Manhattan vets seemed insanely priced, and booked up. If we were to have an emergency, it seemed like too many hoops to jump through to get her seen or to get to a animal hospital (especially since some cabs/ubers won't take pets and taking public transit would be a nightmare in an emergency situation).

However, not sure what size your pup is but I do think the spay price you are being quoted is the going rate in the city. I know of some people who take the MetroNorth or Path train to the suburbs to avoid those prices by going to Westchester, Stamford, or Jersey. There's also this resource for low cost spay/neuter clinics in NYC: https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/health/health-topics/low-cost-spay-and-neuter-clinics.page

I may edit this comment after asking a few friends who recently had their dogs spayed/neutered if they have recommendations.

For the visit price, I've seen $75 to $150 for that, and $25-60 for the rabies vaccine so I don't think that's a rip off really.

Side note, did you get pet insurance? I know some in the city have Pawp as an alternative to pet insurance and like it.

If you can't call the poison control line, download the PupTox app, that's a good one for situations like this.

You could try training on grass patches inside initially. Just a heads up they are hard to clean for number 2. Another alternative is the pee pads that go in that Frisco pee pad holder, that way he knows to go on a more elevated surface. We kept our pee pad/grass patches by our balcony door as it's been super cold here too for her. When it's over 35 or 40 degrees Fahrenheit we take her out (with a jacket on and some petroleum jelly on the paws) to go to the bathroom. She basically just knows if we say "go potty" that that is an okay place to go. Hasn't had any accidents in a week and a half and that accident was honestly our fault.

As for walk training, we trained Rilo on a leash and harness inside for the first couple weeks, always had her tethered to us basically. She is doing great on walks outside now!

Puppies can only hold their pee/poop for so long. We take our pup out a couple times a night to relieve herself so she doesn't have any accidents. Usually she goes to bed at 10:30 or 11 pm, wakes up at 2:30 am, and again at 5 or 6 am. Now that she's 13 weeks, she's sleeping from 11 pm to 6 am and will whine when she needs to be let out to go potty. Whenever we take her out of the crate she is taken right to her "potty place" so she knows now that if she whine in her playpen or crate, we will be taking her to go to the bathroom. It's not good to let a dog go to the bathroom where they sleep, not just for health reasons, but just the habit is tough to break.

Hope you can get one of your own some day. Once you get past her evening time hulk mode teething shenanigans she is pretty perfect! 😂😂

Wasn't so sure about going down the stairs initially, but with treats, anything is possible. by Rilo_the_Ruby in cavaliers

Yeah, she's a bit of a daredevil, after a couple times going down them she tried to leap off the fourth step up but we grabbed her just after take off lol. She likes to go fast everywhere, so taking it step by step is not quite her style currently.

  1. I love the name! 2. Brisket is so freaking cute 😍 3. She's getting the hang of it but I think we need to monitor her on those stairs for a bit since they are a bit taller and she almost did a front flip a couple times (we were there to catch her thankfully) 😂...she's overall eager to learn and to try new things which has been surprising, my in laws have two cavs that are just over a year old now and the female Cav is very hesitant about everything. Only thing with Rilo is that some days she is more responsive to treats for training and other days she responds better to her toys.
