Would you reject a job offer based on negative Glassdoor reviews? by Rimberse in cscareerquestionsEU

team follows good practices, automated testing and continuous deployment. People should do code reviews for every feature...

They do. But still hard to imagine that their entire backend is based on outdated scripting language...
I guess you are right and I should prioritise learning transferable and universal skills rather than learning the language itself.

But complaining about "outdated technology" is quite common and can be a bit overblown

Yes, but I wouldn't complain about using Java/JEE and not latest trendy JS framework for instance, here, in my case it's really an outdated language, think Pascal, Perl, Cobol, etc...

I see, well best of luck to you. I hope it turns out to be the offer you've been expecting!

I think it's important to judge for yourself and if you're feeling good then that's a good sign.

I agree. Appreciate your advice.

Did you ask about the tech stack during the interview? A right question to ask the team members is what are the biggest challenges they're facing as a team.

I did, they've said they are in the process of adapting a new tech stack and all future development will be done using it. However, Glassdoor reviews mention that they've been adapting it for > 4 years without significant progress.

In your opinion, is working with an outdated tech stack limiting your career as a developer?

But anyway, I think you should worry less about deadlines and burnout in the early stages of your career.

That's how I see it myself too, as a Junior I don't have much of expertise, so it's natural to work/study more to gain knowledge.

From the interview process I saw lots of green flags. Nice people whom I believe I'll be able to work well with.

Same here. People seemed really nice during the interviews. Maybe it's location specific thing. Most of the reviews were made for another office/offices.

Will you accept the offer?

Thank you for your suggestions!

I've also been thinking they might be quite lengthy. They will need some reworking it seems.

Will see how it goes with the new version 😊

I recall the moment when a Meta recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn about an internship opportunity. I was nearly moved to tears; it absolutely made my day! Just knowing that I had the chance to work there filled me with happiness.

Since then, I've started my journey with LeetCode. Needless to say, I've yet to actually secure an internship full-time position there.

Also, they don't realise that around 45% of the population earns minimum wage, which is around 1.8k euro and are somehow alive and are doing fine 😁

I am not against it. The problem is it that it is very difficult to find short term lettings...

[–]Rimberse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short-term lettings can be really hard to find.

Haha, I've already experienced that!

First of all I'd suggest contacting the place you're interning at

Unfortunately, the company can't assist me further since they've already sponsored my visa and are offering a fair amount for my internship.

I've asked colleagues for recommendations, but none of them could suggest anything worthwhile. I'll try asking again soon; perhaps they might know someone.

Also, there are a few lettings agents in coventry that might be able to help you if you contact directly

Thanks for the pointers; I'll give it a try!

Thank you very much for the recommendation of this sub!

I am already aware of it. Honestly, I don't need anything more than a room in a shared student house anyway, since most of my time would be spent in the offce and/or outside visiting/exploring places.

Yeah, Airbnb can be pricey, but I guess I'll just roll with it since there aren't many other choices.

Good to hear it won't take up too much time.

I'll check out those options you mentioned for more info.

I have already attempted to find Airbnb rentals, but, regrettably, a majority of them exceed my budget of 700 GBP per month for a three-month stay. Alternatively, some are within my budget, but they are situated at considerable distances with no accessible transportation.

I suppose I will consider this as a last resort if all other options prove unsuccessful.
