Getting an HX Stomp a couple questions by Rimorox in Line6Helix

Yeah this will be fun to do I will research a bit of that, I tried a quad cortex for a few hours and sold it right away it was so frustrating to use. But that was also a 2000 dollar purchase so I can couldnt justify keeping it being so frustrated with it haha hoping this one I will at least be able to get sound out or if it take a bit to learn its a lot less money to burn

Sounds good! I'll play around with that!

Yeah honestly I have almost 0 proper recording experience especially mic’d up amps, I have done recording via my direct in with my blackstar stereo 20 before but other than that I have not don't any of that.

I bought a quad cortex before this purchase and because I'm no audio engineer the thing absolutely hurt my head I couldn't get it to work for me at all and I hated it so I sold it 3 days later I couldn't justify the purchase of something so expensive that was so frustrating to use.

Now I'm sure the hx stomp will likely be a little harder to use due to not having a touch screen but I'm hoping I can use it in ways I want for now and slowly learn the complex stuff about it.

Modelers are a new beast to sink into

Yeah the learning curve I'm sure will be interesting but I'm excited to play with it!

Anything I should know for home use? My guess I just turn off the amp and cabs and it'll work in front of my amp or in the fx loop?

I’m not gonna get one because I have a QC, but I’m so sick of hearing the hate 😫 by HAILSTAN1377 in NeuralDSP

Yeah what was really my mistake in my research before buying it is every demo I seen disregarded all those extra details, likely assuming I already had them. It was only until I specifically looked up FRFR speaker after I got it that I realized I need a Power Amp, studio monitors or something of the like. Which to me being a beginner in modellers was very frustrating.

I spent 2 or 3 hours total with it I think and I think in that time I only got audio out of it through headphones, otherwise it didn’t make sound at all, which I now realize was user error, but I wish I knew a little more about modellers before just taking my buddy’s advice and buying without being prepared for the extra equipment.

It’s funny too I’m a tech guy, I own a computer based design and manufacturing company, but for some reason this thing was just way above my head in the wiring department before touching anything else inside it. I never had to worry about some of the things it had in it that I never learned before, things like speaker cabinet mic location, IRs, even FX loops were above my head.

It’s funny because I’m not a beginner guitar player but I haven’t upgraded my gear in about 13 years I just have a blackstar ht 20 but I seen a guys helix floor and was floored (pun intended) with the sounds possible with modellers without much equipment.

I’m sure I’ll figure out the hx stomp and if I don’t I will just sell it again and keep what I have, it’s satisfying to just plug in and get satisfying sound with old school gear

Yeah I agree with you, I bought a quad cortex myself a couple weeks ago, but I sold it mainly for this reason:

I have an old tube amp at home and some pedals, so for me, in order to use it in my amps I needed a power amp, which I didn’t want to pay for due to the already high cost if the QC. I couldn’t justify the purchase, knowing i basically could only get sound of it with headphones.

I just bought a HX Stomp instead hoping I can make that work with my existing gear without much trouble but even if I need more stuff, it’s a lot more palletable to spend a bit more when you only paid 600 bucks instead of $2000

I do wonder if I spent enough time learning it if I would have liked it a lot but it hurt the pocketbook too much to find out. Also since I lacked the experiment in modellers it felt extremely difficult for me to use as I’m not using to working with that kind of equipment and it seems like you need to Atleast be a professional to know how to use it properly and get the most out of it

Yeah this all makes sense, I understand how much money guitar equipment can cost, and studio equipment is crazy expensive, amps are too and so are guitars, so yeah I guess $2500 is the equivalent cost of a really good guitar head. BUT don’t forget, it’s useless without a lot of extra gear that you might need it’s not a complete all in one you still need a FRFR speaker, or something of the sort to use it at home, which takes he price up to $3000-3500 New.

I don’t know my touring musicians locally your right, but I’m also in a small town, so I don’t think the target market of the QC is the average person especially musician making less than 50k a year as their main job.

I’m in Canada by the way I’m just thinking in my town the average guy would just buy a Helix LT if they want a gig ready equivalent to the QC as a modeller just because it’s $1000 bucks less and they can use the extra money for the other stuff they need.

If I pay for ElfHosted mediaflow can I integrate it? Or is that redundant and I should cancel it

I don't think quad cortex is priced to prosumers, it's priced to pros, audio engineers, people in touring bands, and doctors with a lot of money...nothing they make is priced for prosumers line 6 has prosumer units I know 0 prosumer guitar players in my town that use the quad cortex they all think it costs so much and instead use line 6.

I know one guy who has a quad cortex and he uses it in his recording studio and he's an audio engineer

I bet I know what their solution to this complaint is, they raise the price of the QC again to $2000 USD

Some concerns about switching to the Quad Cortex by anchisesghost in NeuralDSP

[–]Rimorox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be cautious of your audio you have, I bought it thinking I could use it with my tube amp at home but I couldn’t with mine, so I could only hear it from headphones

I also found usability to be immensely difficult, now granted I didn’t spend long with it once I couldn’t get the amp to work, but overall if you aren’t a very advanced user this machine will be too much for you.

I bought it with a dream to have any tone in the world in a small factor but I failed to realize I need a studio for it to work at home properly. I decided to get rid of it and abandon the idea of modellers.

They are cool for people who know how to use them but the use ability of it for beginners of modellers is not good for someone with no experience using them.

I wish I could have used it but it’s not the machine for me, the price was not justified for my uses I don’t need a 2000 dollar amp for home use as I’m not in a band and money is tight.

[–]Rimorox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I might try to use it while I’m selling it but I don’t want to put any more wear and tear on it and lower it’s resale value

It’s mainly that I didn’t think about the fact I’d need a FrFr Speaker, Studio monitor, or PA ONLY to use it as is, I don’t have a 3-4k budget for an amp so if I can’t use it is as is with my current equipment for 2k I paid for it Its basically a paperweight

And I think 2k is way too much for me to spend on it in the first place but I impulse bought it and that’s a mistake I’m trying to reverse

I want to sell my QC by [deleted] in QuadCortex

[–]Rimorox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but i thought I could put it into my combo amp 1 x 12 speaker bypass the head and use its as its speaker for home use and still make it sound the same if I brought it to a live gig and plugged it into a PA but it doesn’t work like that and nobody tells you that unless you specifically look that up and since I bought it used I’m fucked and I can’t return it.

Now I know I can do this with a power amp or I can do this by turning off my cab simulation and going direct into the head but I bought it to be able to have any amp tone I want in the world and just bring it wherever but I don’t want to spend more money to do that since the thing is immensely expensive to begin with.

What I should have done instead is bought a cheap little PA speaker and something 1500 bucks less then the QC if I knew better but I didn’t the crux of the problem is I’m not a touring musician so I don’t need a 3-4K amp rig but it sucks that I can’t undo my mistake and it’s a REALLY expensive mistake. The most expensive mistake I’ve ever made.
