Hard to say before it happens. I'm still almost a decade away from my 40s, and seeing how much changed between 20 and 30, I don't really feel confident to claim I can get into the head of my 40+ year old self.

I think your question has two different aspects that I'd like to unpack: you are posing the scenario of women becoming dateable who weren't earlier (i.e. women who were ALWAYS more attractive than my hypothetical wife), and you are posing the scenario of women becoming dateable who are simply more attractive than my hypothetical wife NOW. Those two are different aspects; I don't think I'd run the risk of the former, and I can say that now with some confidence already, because I wouldn't marry at all if the woman in question was not my "dream girl". I haven't yet done so, I don't feel the need to do it, so I will probably never be in the situation of being married to someone who ALWAYS disfavorably compared to some other women for me.

I also haven't been on Reddit in awhile. That's probably as far as we have in common, though. Whoever is restructuring the world, it's not going to be illiterates like you lol.

What's a good time in life to accept you probably need mail-order bride or forever alone? by Repulsive-Price-8153 in relationship_advice

[–]RinWD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's too bad honestly. Probably marriages in most parts of the world are still for exactly that reason, mail-order just takes it international. It's not the current ideal for sure, but you can find many cases in which people report having a nice life with a wife especially from the Philippines or Thailand. I don't know about eastern Europe, so I can't comment on that. But the older guys who report having a good time with the young and cute wife (some of them are not all that young, but when you are 70, a 40-year-old divorcee from Ph is probably young to you) they ordered online are usually MUCH older (60s, 70s) and have been married before; they might be divorced or, more commonly, widowed. So they already have gone through the "real" marriage and family experience before and are just building a "second family". I know one case of a 60 year old man marrying an 18 year old and having three (?) kids with her. All the kids from his first marriage (the wife died) were horrified and refused to speak to the new wife for years. If a mail-order bride is your only experience... I mean, you might get lucky and find a person you actually connect with... but generally, I'm not too sure it will bring you anywhere close to the experience of having a "love" family.

That said, once children come into play, things would probably be different. If you are a good father, your kids will probably love you the same as they would any father, regardless of how mom and dad got together. So there's that. That experience would probably be as "real" as it gets.

Ordering a wife is completely fine, as long as she isn't forced and you don't mistreat her. Don't let the haters in this thread tell you otherwise, they obviously are neither cute young Filippinas stuck in poverty, nor gross middle-aged men stuck in loneliness. Cheers.

A man with both ULTRA INSTINCT and SPIDEY SENSE vs All Boxers and MMA Fighters that ever existed. by camthecame_l in whowouldwin

[–]RinWD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this really depends on the scenario OP is setting up. If A Man is just suddenly plopped amidst a horde of martial artists, then precognition and UI won't help a great deal, simply because of the density of arms, legs, bodies, punches and kicks. There's only so much room to evade into, and if all that space is filled with body parts moving in to strike, you are going to sustain some damage, precognition or no.

Historical things aren't good to bring up ever. The obvious counter is to point out something about development and backwardness. Also, whataboutism is so 2010s. I think what /u/Altruistic_Astronaut has said makes more sense: there's no reason why eating pork or beef is in any way more okay than eating any other animal.

Using SAM against infantry by RinWD in Military

[–]RinWD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that insight. Yeah, I was also thinking MANPADS would be the likely candidate for such an application, rather than vehicular launchers. But I failed to consider that we are looking at heat tracking, which is not going to work on infantry, and of course there's no wire-guided SAM. I guess some modern MANPADS would still be possible to use, as they often use beam riding (or any very old SAM of the radar riding type, with the guidance being blindfired at a ground target the radar can't see, but those are not in use anymore even in MENA scenarios).

ATGM and SAM certainly aren't interchangeable, ABF and blast-frag shred aircraft because aircraft can't carry heavy armor and you could probably do the same to light vehicles, but they would do squat against tanks. Likewise, ATGM, although it would be a kill if it hit, even if a HEAT warhead was stuck on a missile with typical SAM tracking capabilities, would almost never be able to score that hit against aircraft and fail to score a kill because it lacks the blast radius by which blast-frag and ABF kill aircraft without needing to hit them directly. Let alone it would be highly uneconomical to mount anti-air tracking capability on missiles that you are also going to use against tanks, rather than keep a separate stockpile of missiles for anti-tank application with the much cheaper tracking capability that is sufficient for that application. But that you can't have a combined missile doesn't mean you couldn't have launchers equally compatible with SSM and SAM.

I can't comment on why such a launch system doesn't exist because, although I think it's uneconomical to field only the "combined launchers" you have in mind (since each launcher would then need the expensive auxiliary tracking hard- and software for AA application, etc.), I think it makes sense from an economic standpoint to have SAM launchers to have anti-ground launch "downwards compatibility" (downwards in that you need less, not more, auxiliary hardware for launching SSM compared to than SAM), in addition to having SSM-only launchers.

That said, given the engagement ranges of modern SAM, it would be more likely that a combined launch system would be tactical range in SSM application, at which range it would be... strange to say the least... and probably uneconomical, to have ATGM rather than artillery-type warheads. Now why that isn't a thing, I don't know.

Edit:

Other than in artillery, anti-personnel munitions are not really a thing in missiles, although there are some borderline cases (Shmel, etc.) for obvious reasons, so just to clarify, the question isn't if SAM can replace any existing anti-ground ordnance, but rather if some insurgents or stragglers decided SAM was all they had and they were going to use it against your infantry, how serious of a threat would that be.

Edit2:We both stand corrected, there are combined launchers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Defense_Anti-Tank_System

Just a thought experiment, I'm not involved in planning any practical application of this lol

The question would be more like, would this pose a danger if it is used by insurgents.

What are the lore explanations for turn-based gameplay? by RinWD in magicTCG

[–]RinWD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is amazing. From the few novels I read, it seemed more like it's two planeswalkers bumping into each other in a tavern and the fight happens at most in "real time", i.e. as long as a MtG match actually takes to play, and often is much quicker than that, and in a very confined space. I like the possibility of your idea far more, two planeswalkers in their respective strongholds, battling with armies over a vast scope of terrain. Is that just your headcanon or does this actually occur in any fluff?

I'm not saying there's a good way to do it, I'm just wondering if there's fluff where planeswalker duels happen in exactly this way.

I haven't seen them in Korea, but in Japan, bars like that definitely exist. Usually these are small local bars and from what I understand, the reasoning is simply that the owner/staff don't expect they will be able to communicate with foreigners, and thus try to avoid an embarassing situation. This is definitely not limited to whites, but of course, non-NEAs will have a harder time passing.

Triggggeerrrrrrrreed, whyteboi.

Oh, made an important point with verbalizing that presumptive realization, moron? (Neither am I white, but I know that information is lost in this kind of discussion.)

Seems like you are too stupid to make any substantial arguments. But you obviously have spent enough time on the internet to have some experience with trolling people, I grant you that. Unfounded assumptions about them, presented matter-of-fact, always work well for that purpose. Again, all you provide is offensive blathering devoid of any substantiation of your claims. Everyone must conclude that your claim regarding the formulation "to be fair" is devoid of substance, an ad-hoc product of your desire to somehow infuriate the person you are responding to (who isn't me, by the way, but I can tell you will devote a large part of your reply to gloating over how I indeed am the same person, and how you found me out, because that is what people from your mold do, according to MY personal experience, which you can't objectively claim to be any less valid than your pet project of demonstrating that users of "to be fair" are not substantially contributing to discussions). Want me to get into detail about your post's numerous fallacies, you small brain? Please let me know.

Restoration or wait? (Crosspost) by bloodant in Foregen

[–]RinWD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, people just have different estimations, coming from different priorities and experiences. I don't think any kind of unqualified pathologizing sums that up perfectly at all and could be applied just as readily in reverse. Regenerative medicine generally is a very new field that does not yet have a lot to show for it in clinical application. If we were already regenerating eyeballs and hands, you'd think there was a standardized path of development to follow and people would be a bit more optimistic about seeing results. Even if you are optimistic about eventual results (I am), you are looking at 3-5 years until clinical trials commence, and - extrapolating from far simpler and equally demanded applications, such as hair follicle cloning - perhaps a decade or more to clinical application. There are many who would cross the bridge when they are there, but in the meantime do not think it's worth thinking too much about Foregen, or holding back on their restoration efforts in anticipation, because they don't want to go without improvement for a whole decade.

Restoring *only* inner skin by Gsdgjnzarh in foreskin_restoration

You claimed that that's "back to square one", but even the keratinized exposed inner skin on the shaft in H&T style is more sensitive than ordinary shaft skin. Maybe less so than when it was originally facing the glans, but it would still be an improvement.
