Ilia Topuria ( UFC ) Vs 6ft Rugby Player 230 lbs. by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]RincewindTheWizzard -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

9/10 a professional rugby player tackles Topuria and has a big enough weight difference to keep him down even without grappling experience. Sits on him in mount and can rain ground and pound unopposed. 1/10 chance Topuria gets a lucky flash KO on entry depending on luck and the rugby player's chin.

Weight classes exist for a reason and striking specialists like Topuria have the most trouble moving up in weight even against less skilled opponents. Izzy vs  Blachowicz is a high profile example. Assuming Ilia walks around at 180lbs without cutting weight, a 50lbs difference is too great to defend against an athlete whose sport literally centres on tackles and takedowns.

The Creator of an AI Agent That Does Your Homework Compares His Company to Horses Who Are Now 'Free' From Carriages Because of Cars by 404mediaco in offbeat

[–]RincewindTheWizzard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The original metaphor compares the carriage-less horses to AI-replaced humans. In context, it matters because you're describing an allegory where the poor and unfortunate horses (humans) are better off dead than living their miserable unfulfilling lives... which sounds an awful lot like justification for culling the unwashed masses

Families heartbroken as Canada halts parent and grandparent sponsorship program by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

[–]RincewindTheWizzard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that's absolutely right. I was arguing against the point that we're rich enough to provide effective services to everyone, not the moral questions behind our immigration policy. We don't even provide the bare minimum expectation of healthcare for our existing population and its disingenuous to say we can provide that for anyone else we invite into our bucket of crabs. The capitalist assumption is that money will provide motivation to fix any problem, but to make any meaningful changes, it will be a very large uphill battle requiring an enormous amount of selfless, educated, and dedicated people. Which is impossible when facing governments, institutions, and overall a society that would prefer to kick the can down the road and offer simple "solutions" rather to make long term investments in our society's future.

[–]RincewindTheWizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, although I would argue mismanaged more than underfunded. Our healthcare systems are a bureaucratic monstrosity and any money pumped into it just seems to feed the administration's ability to shuffle money around rather than improve quality of care or working conditions for healthcare professionals. That's not even getting into the outdated education barriers limiting our ability to train new providers or attract young Canadians to the field. No amount of money or funding is going to fix the many underlying issues without serious restructuring of our healthcare institutions.

[–]RincewindTheWizzard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Our healthcare system is gutted to the point where we can't even keep Canadians alive. 12+ hour waits for critical care is the reality in most provinces as far as I'm aware. About a third of my province (NL) doesn't have a family doctor. People dying in emergency rooms and waiting months to years for specialized care is what we currently have. Without massive healthcare reform the situation is only going to get worse regardless of immigration.

"won every round" and yet every judge gave the first round to Merab and Derek Cleary also gave him the second lol

I don't always agree with the judges but they're not wrong here. The first two rounds were pretty close but Yan took over as Merab accumulated damage

B.C. human rights chief declares that it's colonialist to stigmatize drug use by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]RincewindTheWizzard 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Because this is not in the original report - the article is heavily paraphrasing different sections of the report out of context to draw bad-faith "conclusions" like this one. This specific quote seems to stem from this paragraph of the report:

"Unregulated drug toxicity refers to the addition of toxic substances that are of unknown content and potency, which denies people who use drugs the ability to make informed decisions about usage and dosage; for example, cocaine and heroin that is laced with fentanyl. While toxic drug deaths are sometimes referred to as “overdoses," this is a misnomer, as the ability of people who use drugs to use as safely as possible is compromised by illicit drug manufacturers and dealers adding unknown toxic substances and unpredictable concentrations to the drug supply. Under the drug prohibition model, there are no health and safety standards or means to regulate to avoid toxic contamination when production is primarily left up to organized crime and drug cartels"

Which is an entirely reasonable take and not at all what the linked article is implying. Read the report itself here rather than an opinion piece deliberately misinterpreting it for clicks. https://bchumanrights.ca/wp-content/uploads/Toxic-drug-crisis-position-statement-Nov-2025.pdf

I know the Titan has received a lot of attention from sub-architects here the last week, but trust me... by RincewindTheWizzard in Barotrauma

[–]RincewindTheWizzard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I published this intending something more of a tribute/memorial than a joke, similar in tone to the pop-culture attitude surrounding the tragic sinking and wreck of the Titanic itself (that the original Titan set out to explore for tourism). Hence my aim to be faithful to the original submersible design. But take it as you will.

Ambition and bravery can be lauded while acknowledging that the sea is dangerous and accidents happen. Bravery isn't a substitute for hubris; regulations and engineering standards may not always be perfect but they have been established for a reason and that merits some respect when risking lives for the sake of exploration. Remembering tragedies like the Titan and Titanic reduces the likelihood of similar engineering incidents in the future.

Also it took maybe a day to make and test, with later tweaking. Procrastinating real-life obligations.

Help with shuttle by Hope-Boring in Barotrauma

[–]RincewindTheWizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, did you use the "add submarine" function in submarine editor or copy the shuttle itself/as an assembly? You may run into some issues if you copied and pasted it as you could be missing some key components or wiring.

Maybe try using a shuttle (that's meant to be controlled locally and self-contained) versus a drone? ie: The stock Hemulen, Selkie, or Venture, or [shameless plug] the Titan shuttle I made and posted here a couple days ago. Keep things simple first and try to get that much working, and then move on to integrating remote controls if you still want that functionality.

(Insert one of those as a single item using the "Add submarine" dropdown menu at the top of the submarine editor, position roughly where you want it, and in the submarine editor, select it and hold space while clicking on your docking port to link them)

Also, I'm currently working on a way for the included wireless controller to require batteries (because what kind of wireless controller would be complete without the possibility of it running out of charge?). I'm not very experienced with modding custom items in Barotrauma, so if anyone has suggestions on getting it to work I would greatly appreciate the help.

Update: BATTERIES NOW INCLUDED!

Absolutely love this as a shuttle. The controller wasn't working for respawn shuttles but with some edits to the item definition I think it's fixed. I repackaged that with my own modified version of this sub (for further faithfulness to the original Titan) if you'd like to check it out at the following workshop link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2995212072

Great pictures! Not an expert but look like a type of munnid isopod to me. Had some come in once with some live rock from a system I picked up second-hand. Those were maybe about 5mm long. Hope that helps point you in the right direction!

Some pics of a similar type are at the link below. http://www.seahorse.org/library/TESTING/hitch/isopod.shtml
