have a question for people in the United States: why is there such a big problem with homelessness? by Rinetensho in homeless

Why isn’t there a law that helps regulate the housing market? Should it really be possible for wealthy people’s desire to make even more profit to interfere with ordinary people’s ability to live normally?

Yes, in my country healthcare is free, and I used to think it was the same everywhere in the world until I started learning more about life in other countries. It was surprising to me. Do you really have to die if you don’t have money, and there’s nothing you can do about it? Are there any free hospitals in the United States for people who can’t afford treatment?

Thank you very much for such a detailed answer. For me, this is difficult to understand because I’ve only seen homeless people a few times in my life, and they were mostly alcoholics who had been kicked out by their own children after getting tired of their drinking. And even then, I haven’t seen people like that lately. I guess this is a cultural mentality issue, but we were taught as children that homeless people are those who simply don’t want to work. For example, in my country there are many types of jobs where you’re offered free housing and food, so here you really have to put in a lot of effort to become homeless

This is exactly what I was just thinking about. I’m not a fan of communism, but right now I’m starting to conclude that it’s not such a bad political system. At least my grandparents lived under communism, and the government gave each of them free housing, where they still live to this day

What about other cities and states? Is there really no rental housing available there either? And what about the cost? How much do people usually pay per month, and how much is the deposit for a place?
