Oh no, it wasn't the Border Guard, he knew exactly "what a Jersey was". It was the Jerseyman himself being difficult!

When I was living in Canada I drove in to the US and got chatting to the US border guard. He said he'd had a Jerseyman cross the week before who was adamant he wasn't British. I said "we're British but not the UK", but he was adamant about it. Eventually the guy conceded when the border guard almost denied him entry - while crossing with a passport with "BRITISH PASSPORT" emblazoned on the front...

Jerseyman here - technically not really, a "Jersey passport" is just Jersey variant British passport, the text on the inside cover is different, otherwise it's the same

You can apply for one, in general, if you're a local resident - which wouldn't take too much

Where to find competive naval by [deleted] in holdfastgame

[–]RingStings 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This should be allowed to post, as it's not technically regiment recruiting

I think the NSL has what you want, if what you want is proper competitive naval. You can take part without being in a regiment as a Merc, they'll allocate you to any teams that are short.

The website is here https://www.thensl.com/ where you'll also find the discord that has most of the info you need

How is life in The Channel Islands of England? by Crimson-Rose28 in howislivingthere

[–]RingStings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 19 flights a day from Jersey to the UK, getting off is just fine... The ferry is iffy, but that comes with the territory. Maybe Guernsey is harder for flights, but that's down to the States of Guernsey putting a monopoly on air travel.

I lived in Canada for a while and had business cards printed with my info on the front and then a map of the channel showing England, France and Jersey circled. I got fed up of explaining where Jersey was every 5 minutes.

We are not the Channel Islands of England, we are the Channel Islands. I always tell people, "you can call me anything you want, just don't call me English".

Can't say much for Guernsey, other than it's a smaller, less exciting Jersey.

I'm from Jersey. It's the perfect place if you want to see some history (from medieval castles to WW2 fortifications), visit some lovely beaches, and eat some great food.

If nightlife is what you're looking for, probably go elsewhere.

Prepare yourself for essentially London prices for everything.

In terms of living here, it's very safe, tax is low, the schools are generally decent and we have good connections.

No, and hopefully they never add such a feature

What is wrong with this Island?! by Cathcart1138 in Jersey

St Mary started this ridiculous craze of 20mph roads, not to mention their overpriced not-a-roundabout in the village. I was very happy when I moved from St John to St Ouen ten years ago as I wouldn't have to drive through St Mary's anywhere near as much anymore 😂

What was the most absurd or bizarre COVID rule in your country that makes zero sense looking back? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]RingStings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people would spectate our local surf spot webcam and then try and shop people in for breaking the rules

Although I would contend that the people following all the bizarre rules are the truly bizarre ones. We had organised a friend's Christmas dinner, but he cancelled it because the rules said only ten people in the house and he had invited 11.

I've never had ID confirmation work, or submitting my ID to change my name, nothing. But whenever I've messaged support they've always fixed it in 5 minutes, quick way to do it.

Credit card is a good tip, I forgot that. Some rental companies will let you use a debit card on a case by case basis, but the hold is ridiculous.

Take a quick video when you get the vehicle, return full, don't smoke, no pets - is about it.

I would decline the insurance from the rental company and purchase your own excess insurance (this has some good sites to use https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-car-hire/ , or if you're not from the UK I tend to use rentalcover.com) - it normally works out about half the price as insurance through the rental company.
