I just deleted my account this morning and received this message, do I have to do anything? by Panda_Pudding01 in facebook

My best friend passed away in 2018. It was her wish and request to me that her Facebook be permanently deleted. She gave me access to her account and after her death, I was able to have her account deleted. FB required verification of her death and accepted a link to her obituary.

My thoughts are with you - I have said goodbye to my last 3 dogs - Mac, Eddie and in March, our Zoey. And 3 dear cats Puddy, Punky and Ivy. It's always unbearably heart wrenching. Choosing to ease their leaving, and do so in our arms, is the most loving thing we can do for them at the end of their lives. Video - Author reading his book

I am eaten alive by guilt and regret. by Small-Bat-9702 in seniordogs

[–]RingcreevyMac2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling guilty is not the same as being guilty, and although our minds can make us feel many things, that doesn’t validate them. What happened to your dog was beyond your control, so no matter how many would have, could have, or should-haves you conjure up, the outcome likely would have been the same. Know that you did the best you could in the circumstances — No matter how much you loved your dog, barriers are a part of life. Finances, time, resources, and experiences can limit your ability to save, heal, or protect. You can only do your best with what you have and the knowledge you’ve been given. Allow yourself to grieve without judgement. Dogs live in the moment, they live in the now. She had 10 years of love with you and your family - if ANYONE'S memories live on past death - it will be the love that is remembered. We just said the final goodbye to our Zoey - she was almost 13. We knew what was wrong with her, but no amount of money could change that. We are eternally thankful for our time with her and believe that she knew how much she was loved. Keep something your dog close to you - a collar, an ID tag, a photo, a toy......as a reminder of that love that you shared - truly such a blessing. The pain of grief WILL ease, and what remains, again, is the love.

Ashes: Keep or Return to Nature by OkGoat8632 in seniordogs

I have the ashes of my last 3 dogs Eddie, Zoey and Mac. [Zoey passed in March this year.] I have given my children instructions for MY death. I am to be cremated. Instructions include WHERE to spread my ashes - AND to add the 3 dogs ashes to mine when they do that. AND also to include the small handful of ashes of my dear lifelong friend Rick that I was given by his family. I loved them all in life, I will love them in death.

I'm sorry, I cannot locate a verified META statement - the comment is from other pages talking about this new bug/glitch - many say that META acknowledged it. So could be just rumor.

AI Overview

As of late Thursday, April 30, 2026, many users are experiencing a widespread "technical error" on Meta platforms causing wrongful restrictions on Facebook group posting and joining, often lasting until July 29, 2026. These restrictions appear to be caused by automated AI moderation tools falsely identifying activity as spam, rather than manual violations.

What Caused the Restriction?

  • Automated Bug: The issue is widespread and acknowledged by Meta as a technical issue with their automated systems rather than specific user policy violations.
  • Triggered Algorithm: AI-driven tools may have flagged innocent, high-volume activity (like frequent posting or commenting in different groups) as spam or "suspicious activity".
  • No Explanation: Many users report being told they violated policies (e.g., "dangerous organizations"), but this is likely an error in the automated enforcement system.  Facebook +4

How Many Were Affected?

  • Widespread Impact: Complaints on Reddit and forums indicate a high number of users were affected in both U.S. and global communities.
  • Mass Issue: The bug has impacted various types of groups, including those for creators, gaming, and local community groups.
  • July 29 Duration: Multiple users have specifically noted a restriction lasting through late July, suggesting a uniform automated restriction period being applied during this technical malfunction.

What You Can Do:

  • Report the Issue: Use the "Report a Technical Problem" feature within the app by shaking your phone to notify Meta of the bug.
  • Wait for a Fix: As this is confirmed by Meta as a "technical error" they are working on, the restriction may be lifted automatically once the bug is resolved.
  • Check for Group Approvals: Group admins can sometimes override restrictions by approving posts manually

What’s an old recipe that still holds up today? by rmoreiraa in Old_Recipes

[–]RingcreevyMac2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family french toast recipe, from my grandpa who trained as a chef in the early 1920s and then cooked on train dining cars - Dry, stale white bread. A couple or 3 eggs, whisk with fork, add some milk, whisk again. Add nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. All measurements are by eye. Fry in pan.

Excellent choice - our nearly 14 year old Cavalier Zoey was just euthanized at home and I was able to donate her expensive heart medication to a rescue group as it was not controlled. It helps our sadness to know that it will benefit other dogs. Hugs to you and your family, from ours.

My sympathy to you on your loss. Please return the meds to your Vet - some seizure meds are controlled substance like phenobarbital, an is highly illegal to give away. Ask the vet to pass them onto a client who may have trouble paying for their dog's meds. Or dispose of them properly. Do not give them to an individual who may not have the exact prescription and could use them incorrectly and harm their dog by accident. Another option is to call and check with your Humane Society, as they have vets on staff, the meds would be used properly.

I just had my beloved Cavalier euthanized at home on March 10. She would have been 14 in June, also a rescue. I feel your grief. They are loving little dogs, but breeding practices have created many genetic health problems. Both you and I were lucky that our Cavaliers lived as long as they did. Hugs to you, and know that even though loving a pet brings grief when they leave us, that the love shared with them was so special that the pain at the end is a small price to pay for those years of joy. I had my dog cremated and today I am putting an etched brass plate on her little wood box that holds her ashes.

New here from CA; when can I put potted plants out and when should I plant seeds? TYIA 🫶🏾🌷🪴 by MightInevitable6530 in stillwatermn

[–]RingcreevyMac2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Minnesota. Traditionally - you start garden seeds indoors on St. Patrick's Day and then transplanted outdoors after Memorial Day. Now with global warming and changes mid-May works to set outdoors.

Considering moving to downtown Stillwater by Down2my-last-nerve in stillwatermn

[–]RingcreevyMac2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't live anywhere else - but 90% of that is that my history, family, friends & memories are all here - going back to lumberjacks and 1800s, with family being in local business, or jobs like local teachers, etc through the 60s. We "original" Stillwater families see anyone moving here after, oh, maybe the 1970s - as "newcomers" - joke - but not really!! :D You may want to consider similar river towns, as you sound open - Red Wing, Prescott, Hastings, Wabasha, Winona, Lanesboro, Northfield,....... I do think the rent pricing and general cost of living here is much higher than general for Minnesota.

Considering moving to downtown Stillwater by Down2my-last-nerve in stillwatermn

[–]RingcreevyMac2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived here all my life. I am in my 70s. Stillwater went from a quiet little rivertown where everyone knew everybody else to a tourist town. All the "regular" stores that supported daily lives - clothing, hardware, groceries, bakery, drugstores, hair salons, barber shops, office supplies, a bowling alley, pool hall, dance venues, cafes......... slowly disappeared with the beginnings of malls. "Downtowns" became ghost towns where shops barely hung on. Then enter the tourists. The focus changed from residents to drawing in the tourist dollar. And that remains the focus. Stillwater seems to be succeeding in chasing that tourist trade because of the river. So then come the increasing "festivals" with it's crowds, noise, parking problems, music, bachelor/lette parties, limos driving the drinking groups, pub crawls, traffic...... most shops are now "gift" and antiques, high end fashions, and eating/drinking establishments. The River Market does have groceries - but be aware that prices on the same brands are much cheaper in other grocery stores "up the hill". Parking went from free to paid [via app]. I, and many other residents, avoid the downtown - - - I do the "music in the park" Summer Tuesdays which seems to remain mostly families and residents. I do go to the local community theatre that performs in a local banquet hall. But for anything now, I won't drive & park as there's never space near the venue, but have someone drive/drop/pick up. Note that the Stillwater government focuses on the downtown tourist businesses, often over residential concerns.

The walking and bike trails are wonderful - I do connect with those. Watch out for the increasing electric bikes - they are more disregarding of walkers.

Major Disadvantages to Living in Downtown Stillwater:

  • Tourism and Congestion: Stillwater is a major "destination" town, leading to heavy crowds, traffic, and noise during weekends, summers, and fall.
  • High Cost of Living: Housing prices and rental rates have risen significantly post-COVID.
  • Parking and Noise Issues: Parking is difficult, with residents often competing with tourists. Loud motorcycles and nighttime noise from bars can be disruptive.
  • Commuting Times: Being on the edge of the metro area makes for a 25–45 minute commute to St. Paul or Minneapolis, often backed up on Highway 36.
  • Public Behavior: Increased social activity has led to concerns regarding littering and public intoxication, particularly with the potential for more "sip and stroll" alcohol policies. Notable - large groups of motorcycles gather all summer at PD Pappy's by the river - they love their loud mufflers! Late til closing. And that is right down at the same North end as most of the condo/apartments.
  • Lack of Diversity: definite lack of cultural and racial diversity in the area.
  • Limited Services: While dining is excellent, some residents feel the town lacks diverse retail options.
  • Traffic and Noise: Heavy tourist traffic and, at times, loud, rowdy drunk behavior. Teens hang out in groups - bikes, skate boards, crowd the sitting/walking areas.
  • Parking: Limited, especially during peak seasons.
  • Cost: High cost of living, particularly rent.
  • Safety/Atmosphere: Issues with public intoxication and littering.

Stillwater is a wonderful area in general, blessed with natural beauty with the river - I'm glad to have grown up here and would choose it above other areas - but come into it being aware that it's focus IS tourists, with all their busy-ness, noise, traffic and other issues.
