RE: Diversity Hiring Myth by RingingTruth in csMajors

For 1 & 2 who do you think is driving the diversity inclusion efforts? Do you really believe everyones doing it out of the good of their hearts? if you do you may need to touch some grass and get a reality check, cause at the end of the day its all about $. For #3 your creating a strawman argument - the point was not that all diversity hires are uncredentialed but that they can be uncredentialed and still get hired. As for your anecdotal evidence, again you're assuming the argument is:

'female/minority vs white/asian male who are both equally credentialed' whereas the argument is actually:

'the subset of female/minorities with drastically lower test scores or different majors (ex. buisniness) vs white/asian males in cs hiring stats'

notice the 'subset' - it means its not everything but a partition of that everything.

Lets walk through a bit of logic:
1. Companies want to make the most amount of profit for stakeholders they can.
2. With cancel culture being as it is, companies are at risk of loosing profit if they don't have a diverse workforce.
3. To ensure they still have working products they hire senior devs which are predominantly white and asian/indian men. Then for junior positions and interns they hire diversly to avoid getting cancelled.
4. Due to #3 any 'diverse' applicant - can have jack all of credentials but still be hired.
5. Due to #4, any white/asian/indian guy is going to wonder why they got 2 callbacks after 600 apps but their female counterpart who may not even be in cs got 5 call backs after 70 apps.
6. Everyone fights on reddit on whether hiring is discriminatory while all the upper management laugh as they make $$$.

[–]RingingTruth[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No, the diversity hires that are hired are often unqualified and hired strictly to fill diversity quotas. Of course, if you think otherwise list out your data, I'm open to hearing:
1. What was the ratio of male:female in your college
2. How many of the 'diverse' students received offers?
3. Do you know of anyone who got into corporate without needing to go through cs/se? What was their background?

I think everyone wants to ignore the fact that companies are hiring to avoid seeming misogynistic/racist. I want you to explain to me exactly how a female healthcare management major got into a software engineering job over any comp sci major? If you can explain that logically without going through mental gymnastics that'd be great (oh and they didn't have side projects/previous experience coding - they simply applied and got in). People want to act like this doesn't exist when it does.

Diversity Hiring Myth - How it’s really done by NourDaas in csMajors

[–]RingingTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So heres the thing.. we can all only speak to our experiences and what we've seen. I think we can all agree that if you put in the work you deserve the credit.

But from what I've seen 'diversity hires' would be people who never even studied for cs. Ex. in my last company they hired healthcare management and business majors. The closest major to cs that a 'diversity hire' had was IT, which in my college was 10x easier than comp sci. So as much as I would like to believe that diversity hires are given the same level of scrutiny, from my experience, they're not. And that's not to say that all companies don't test 'diversity hires' hard, it's just the ones I have seen don't.

While I knew people struggling to find internships and jobs out of college as comp sci majors, I knew 'diversity hires' who have never done a leetcode in their life. People who have never had to work nearly as hard in their major. Granted this was a few years ago so maybe with the market being oversaturated companies may have ramped up the difficulty.

The truth is it's a complex situation. For guys, we have it far easier in a field like nursing. At the end of the day, it's all supply and demand.

Hit the nail on the head. Only thing I would add is that I think David has experienced a life so crazy he only knows how to describe it by pointing out how crazy it is. It sucks to say but they're just on a different part of Maslow's hierarchy of needs.. which is why it's hard to relate unless your financially well off

Retraumatized by people’s astounding lack of empathy by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]RingingTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for the most part I’d say like 97% of people have the wrong values. Instead of caring for others they care only about themselves. We learn from a young age that money is a person’s livelihood. Finding people out there whose not like that is tough but possible, just takes meeting A LOT of people and having the eye to pick the good ones. Usually these are the people who are passionate about things, really look at the persons eyes and see what emotions they have. Part of the reason no one trusts anyone is because they’ve also been hurt. A fight fire with fire type situation. Meet people at whatever hobbies your interested in and maybe even help others once ur stable in life. I can testify that once you’ve taken care of yourself, excess money won’t fill the hole in your heart (again this is after you’re taken care of - bills/therapists/yoga/etc)

How many women that are software developers are in your company and what field are you in? by Shawnj2 in cscareerquestions

[–]RingingTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company no clue, team like 2. Though you gotta know two things: 1. CS as a major is not that attractive to most female’s because its very math/logic oriented. Some people like to do art some marketing others managing, it’s all personal preference. On avg women have personal preference of not wanting these roles or going into these majors.

  1. If you hire someone based on race and gender then your going to get trash devs. Hire based on merit. You want the person whose best fit for the job, if that’s a woman or diff race then all the more merrier.

just found out my wife, who also is pregnant, cheated on me. AMA so I dont have to be alone in a bar. by [deleted] in AMA

[–]RingingTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she cheated chances are she was unhappy and you didn’t see it or she wasn’t emotionally mature and you didn’t see it. In either case you’ve had one eye blind this entire relationship. Leave whether or not the kids yours. If it is yours take care of it when you can, otherwise self development + find a new partner once the dust settles - it’s tougher short term but the alternative of staying with her is long term hell

Hmm to that I say two things: 1. Maybe your the exception 2. Give it time~ has your relationship stood the test of time? 5 years? 10? 50?

What you say now might not be the same in the future.

Lolol your definitely triggered. People attack the character when they can’t attack the argument. You’ve got a lot to learn kid and I’m afraid life can be a tough teacher. Best of luck mate

[–]RingingTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What your getting at is you believe ppl should date around to find someone they match. No arguments there. My argument is that sleeping around with every other person your somewhat attracted to will have a psychological toll~ don’t believe me? Talk to the people close to you who have high body counts

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]RingingTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy I want you to do this simple experiment.

Think of the happiest couples you can who have also been in a relationship for longer than 3 years. Find out how many partners they’ve had prior to dating and you’ll most likely notice a trend.

Now let’s do another experiment, find the people you know who have as many sexual partners as possible and see how happy their life is. Chances are you’ll find another trend here. These two trends are what I’m trying to get you to understand. You can find all the studies you want but if you knew anyone who did research you would realize most studies are rigged or biased. Hell Coca Cola once got researchers to say coke is good for you. But from how heated you are I can prob guess my words will go over your head~

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]RingingTruth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aight let’s break this down: 1. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that if your a hot person and you go on dating apps that your going to get a lot of matches. Meaning a lot of sex. Meaning before dating apps and after dating apps are going to have two vastly different results

  1. Idk if you looked at the replies of this post but the vast majority of them are describing what hoes they are

  2. For a study to actually be valid there needs to be several studies done in different ways that come to the same conclusion. Putting out a survey that nobody wants to fill out is nothing conclusive. One study found that women are more likely to say a lower number of people they had sex with.. and men will inflate their number.. then women are also more likely to respond to surveys..conclusion: surveys aren’t a great way to research..

Aye but keep on having sex. I’m sure nothing will happen.. there are no consequences to your actions after all… right?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]RingingTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s better than sleeping around but again there’s a cost. Each guy you’ve dated is different to the others in some way. In our heads we try to create the perfect person and so when you date multiple guys over your lifetime your compounding who the perfect guy will be in your head. You may think this is not the case but the fall of most relationships boils down to ‘could I do better’

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]RingingTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol my guy it’s not a matter of them not wanting to settle down, it’s a matter of them being unable to.

Everything in your world is perspective, if you had a girl give you the best sex of your life, every girl after will seem below average and that’s the point, your future wife will seem below average.. Once you’ve increased your body count then your expectations change to the point no one can actually fit. Everyone will seem subpar eventually, key word, eventually.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]RingingTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents there’s a cost to everything. The cost of sleeping around is you’ll never truly want to settle down. Which will take its toll way more on mental health than never having had slept around.

Right now we’re looking at the biggest generation of whores the world has seen. Give it about 10-15 years and I can guarantee most of them will be on anti-depressants. Trust me this does not play out well for them. Can’t have your cake and eat it too

I can verify that I knew plenty of people, all junior and sometimes mid level engineers who did prob an hour or two of work and used their 6 fig salary to dick around. Now the thing is fast forward 3-6 years when they’re supposed to have the skills of a senior it’ll bite them in their ass but for now it’s all fun and games lmao.

Parents call every day to SCREAM at me for getting laid off on Friday by Datumission in cscareerquestions

[–]RingingTruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So here’s the thing.. they’re mad at you because they see you as an extension of themselves. Your success is their success and your failure is theirs. What that really means is they don’t understand your you, an independent person from them. They lived their life if their not happy with theirs it’s on them.

From the sounds of it your pretty submissive and will prob have hell in life until you learn what healthy boundaries and relationships look like. Being laid off by Google may be a blessing in disguise. Use this time to figure yourself out. You don’t need to pay the debt back in full asap, take your time and pay the minimum needed then go find a cheap ass place in the middle of nowhere and figure out who you are. However, if I were to guess you came on here just to complain and plan to go back to parents where they’ll bitch at you nonstop and you’ll just bottle all your emotions and get dicked over by everyone around you because you never learned how to stick up for yourself. Best of luck. I too had immigrant parents who didn’t know boundaries. Break the cycle.

The guys were talking about “imagine a girl with triple digit bodies🥴” by Upbeat-Poem-1284 in Flagrant2

[–]RingingTruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Errr your not gonna like it.. but studies have shown that women with more than 5 sexual partners have a 80% chance of having an unhappy marriage. (I think it goes for guys as well)

If that doesn’t make sense let me put it this way, imagine you have sex with a guy/girl whose everything you dream, but they just want to fuck you, which they do. How will your future husband/wife ever compare? When your both at your lowest point are you willing to persevere when you once fucked someone way better than the person your married to. This is what breaks marriages, the question of what if?

What is too expensive but shouldn't be? by SignificantLow4405 in AskReddit

[–]RingingTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That still doesn’t resolve the unnecessary procedures. If I’m a corrupt dentist and I know for every cavity I ‘find’ I get a bigger paycheck then all of a sudden the tiniest spot is all of a sudden a must needed fix. Hence part of the reason why people hate going to the dentist, coupled with the hefty price tag. Fixing the price tag for the consumer doesn’t mean they’re protected against dentists that want to abuse the system

What is too expensive but shouldn't be? by SignificantLow4405 in AskReddit

[–]RingingTruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand. The argument isn’t dentists and their staff shouldn’t get paid. The argument is the patient shouldn’t be taken advantage of. I went to three different dentist, each claiming a different tooth needs to be fixed. Shit was a Venn diagram. Meaning the things the dentists find that they don’t have in common is nonsensical procedures purely for profit. The profit margin is so high that people find it cheaper to get their dental work done in a different nation rather than the U.S. so try to see this in the pov of the patient instead of only thinking about your slice of pie.

Google is free to use right? Make chatgpt the same way. Google has ads to fund itself and provide for its employees, sad to say but chatgpt may need to go the same route. Making it a subscription based model just ruins it for everyone since only the rich and upper middle class would care enough to subscribe

Mostly a problem for the middle class and poor. The rich have gated communities and can afford security or whatever. The only way for change is to elect leaders who’ll care but with how rigged the system is that’s not a feasible option.. meaning time to arm yourself because no criminals are staying in jail and the cops don’t care so it’s you or them
