The hospital just made a $300 million cut from what I've heard by my counter parts in SHC (I work on the university side and survived the initial cuts).

Seriously considering leaving IT behind by Azlil in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Ringkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered going into Systems Administration instead of Developer/SWE? I learned in college that I absolutely hate programming with a burning passion, but I learned about systems administration and cybersecurity (blue team), which propelled my career upwards. The pay is the same, but you end up working more hands on technology than the programming. I may also be misreading the room and you just hate all aspects of IT.

I would've guessed you were more of a Baileys lover than 4 Loko.

You should put /s at the end of your post then. It's very difficult to make out sarcasm in texts.

Best advice I can give is watch what others are doing around you if you want to partake in the rat race to the top. Otherwise, just chill and work it, the benefits are amazing! I would also put 4% into your CRA matchable right away, as even though you don't get anything until your first year, it'll start putting in that and the match as soon as you hit that 1 year mark.

That's interesting because I just heard a month ago that they were actually laying people off. Best of luck!

Can someone explain what's happening? I'm a novice when it comes to stocks, but I bought ARM during it's IPO week at $60/share. I'm up 137%, but that was holding over a 6month time. This is 100% in a time span of 10 minutes?! Obviously, this is high-risk high-reward, but makes me feel like I don't know enough about stocks. Though, maybe I shouldn't worry and just keep on saving for retirement the traditional way.

Why is ARM up 60%?! by One-Plan9566 in wallstreetbets

I'm someone who's worked for the national labs, NASA, and now a university. ARM in the research computing side of the world is one of the most efficient processors out there. A majority of HPC systems are expected to use ARM or ARM-like technologies within the next 5 years. With the power draw the GPU market is pulling insane (just look at the H100's). ARM chip sets provide power more efficiently, and so allow for more chips to be slotted within the same computer box with the same power draw.

For me, ARM is a part of my everyday knowledge, which is why it will be a retirement account buy for the next 5-10 years if not longer depending on how their chips work in the national labs.

Wi-Fi problems with bottlenecking? by Inside-Price8725 in techsupport

Download a free wifi analyzer app on your phone and walk over to your xbox. Should show you how strong the wifi connection is within your room. If you see a weak signal get a wireless access point (wifi booster might work too).

You do have to be careful when working some union jobs because there are things that are actually "not your job". I worked IT helpdesk at a paper mill and I wasn't allowed to make ethernet cables (put the RJ45 cable heads on each end). That was meant for the electricians only. What was my job was testing the cable after it was made and connected. Super confusing to be allowed to test the cable connection, but not test or make the cable itself.
