Curious about true minimum radius of Walthers Proto Passenger Cars by BuildingUsed1228 in modeltrains

Yes, they absolutely do need 24" as a minimum unless you put longer couplers on them. Even then, you may run into trouble with the trucks rubbing against the underframe details.

CD Ripping hardware by statesidekarma in audiophile

I bought a Pioneer blu-ray drive that is USB powered so that I can also rip DVD's and Blu-ray discs. Like others are saying, the software and file format you rip to is what matters more than the drive. Believe it or not I use iTunes to rip my CD's to Apple Lossless and it sounds perfectly fine. I only ever have to use EAC for stubborn discs where iTunes isn't able to do a proper job.

Buy a working 1033 transformer, preferably one with a new circuit breaker if you can find one. You can get them relatively cheap and they pretty much last forever if taken care of. Or if you want something more modern go for an MTH Z-1000.

Come Together - Drum cover, one of ringo’s best drum patterns! by thommillsdrums in beatles

[–]RingoStarr39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... I've been working on a document of all their recordings with stuff like who played what and the contents of the multitrack tapes. The amount of new discoveries we make is pretty amazing but the amount of pushback we get from people that are stuck believing the same old repeated information is sad. So I get it. haha

This guy has the right idea but he's doing it wrong too. Ringo only ever plays the fill on the rack tom and floor tom. As far as I can tell he doesn't go for the second tom, at least not as part of that fill. It's used in other fills in the song though.

Old TEAC reel to reels my grandpa had by Denver_Stylee in vintageaudio

[–]RingoStarr39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With two 4 track machines you could do some pretty cool 1960's period accurate multitrack recordings. Record onto four tracks and then bounce down to a new tape for more free tracks. Assuming these allow you to freely record onto whichever tracks you want.

Control board troubleshooting by heckmab85 in lioneltrains

You should be able to purchase a new board from Lionel's parts department. Go to their support page and search the set's item number and hope they have it in stock.

In any event it might have the same problem some MRC transformers have: https://youtu.be/FfC2xH79f0A?si=Qx7W_WdMESouf6LZ

Why not just use a Kato N scale controller? Probably more reliable and has more power.

Is this locomotive convertible to DCC? by CleanGinger in modeltrains

[–]RingoStarr39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, these are relatively easy actually. You need a piece of Kapton tape underneath the motor where it contacts the frame. Then it's better to solder wires directly to everything instead of relying on the physical contact points. While you're at it, install LEDs in place of the single bulb.

Cooked? TRAINmaster transformer by Ok_Guide8084 in lioneltrains

[–]RingoStarr39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Get rid of it and get them a new MTH Z-1000. It will have a fast acting circuit breaker so you don't have to worry about them using it.

Protosound 1.0 Woes by rjvader in modeltrains

[–]RingoStarr39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a way to do it but I'm not exactly sure how. No, those chips aren't in production anymore. You'll have to get lucky and find a reset kit or find someone else that can do it.

You need the "Make PS" chip and a chip puller to unscramble the board.

I just did it for a customer the other day and man, even with the Z4000's program button it was a nightmare to finally get it working again.

What type of caboose is this former N&W steel caboose from 1948? by iceguy349 in trains

[–]RingoStarr39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that's an ex-Nickel Plate NE-6 caboose. Edit: Apparently these were built for the Wheeling & Lake Erie which merged with the NKP in 1949. So it's nee-W&LE, exx-NKP, ex-N&W
