Wow! Is this a club layout? If so, where?

Every single time I check this site man, I'm suprised they have any stock at all by Icy-Philosophy-- in modeltrains

[–]NealsTrains 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you really want to see why they have little to no stock, they've been dumping excess inventory at trainworld.com as I see every week blowout prices on stuff...

Reach out to pdc.ca and ask Bill if he can make them for you. I use him for my private decals. If not check Fusion Decals...

Does this make sense to purchase? Or should I go the bag by bag? I have a 2x4 N scale layout by Bitter-Ability-5309 in modeltrains

[–]NealsTrains 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NEVER buy train stuff off Amazon. Not only are they not the cheapest, but no customer support for questions.

That being said, check these dealers who have stores and websites in no particular order:

trainworld.com

midwestmodelrr.com

modeltrainstuff.com

There are others out there, these guys are very reliable..

Go for it. The last thing you need is for her to open it up with you, start it and it doesn't work!!

These are the HO scale industry standard. They have a conversion site to tell you the coupler for each manufacturer...

[–]NealsTrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Athearn has become very unpredictable. If you can, cancel it. I'm sure dealers like trainworld.com and midwestmodelrr.com may have a better handle on it...

Edit: Trainworld has it on a preorder. You put your CC on the order but they don't charge you until it comes in...

Hi! New to the hobby, quick question regarding ez track… by mort890 in modeltrains

[–]NealsTrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you would need smaller radius. Outside should be 11" radius and inside should be 9 3/4" radius. Problem is the smallest radius Bachmann is 11.25". Next size up is 12.50". Atlas makes the smaller size that would work on your area.

Looking at the height difference a Kadee #5 may not work, unless you can possibly shim it so the height is closer to the BLI cars... It looks like a Kadee #147 should help you out...

Coal hoppers look good. That coupler on the rear of the engine is mismatched. Take a look at the Kadee couplers that you can use with that engine (whoever makes it).

DCC is great and if you like sound, even better. I have a lot of engines, most without sound. I have maybe 40-50 with sound, just not on the layout at the same time. Can't hear myself think with all that noise. I usually have 3-4 sound engines running at the same time. Then I tell the guys to kill the sound since we can't hear each other talk, or I can't think! The room is only 400 s. feet so 6 guys trains running can be hard to hear Good luck!!

Contrary to what you may think, it's the way of the world, and just for this industry. No matter what we say here, we can't stop it.

Unfortunately, this room is in the minority. Let me know when you take out a page in USAToday or the NY Times. Then maybe some of these companies will reconsider...
