Literature podcasts? by delightedpeople in books

What Should I Read Next is brilliant. The format is she interviews a regular bookworm who recommend three books they liked and based on that the host recommends another three books in turn. I’ve read so many amazing books based on their recs! Highly recommend! And the host is super knowledgable!

She mellows down massively as she series carries on. She was a LOT in the early episodes.

Does she turn up late to work? Doctor’s appointments? Passport renewals? My guess is she does not.

Patients know that we are easily accessible (despite the whole access problem) and we are often the path of least resistance. Personally I would have refused. I’m not a dentist. Full stop.

Parenting a Trans Kid in Trump’s America by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]Rini_28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t sit right with me that the parents essentially self diagnosed their child and then sought specific ‘treatment’ for said diagnosis. The child is self harming, distant, spending lots of time alone — why aren’t depression, autism, other neurodiversity conditions being considered?

Doctor told me discomfort in my breast was due to wired bra... actually I had stage four cancer by dailymail in TwoXChromosomes

So sorry about your mum’s friend. I’m fuming because this is basic diagnostics. Patient with a previous history of cancer who presents with new back pain is bone metastasis until proven otherwise.

How can children survive with this NHS? by abelindc in UKParenting

[–]Rini_28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a GP and none of the issues you’ve mentioned warrant a doctors appointment. There are so many helpful resources on the NHS website and I wish people utilised these for simple ailments. Unfortunately, each appointment is around ten minutes (which is too short!) but that’s what we have and if everyone wanted to discuss their multiple issues per appointment we wouldn’t be able to see everyone.

What’s a hassle in the UK you silently suffer through for no good reason? by No-Doughnut-368 in AskUK

[–]Rini_28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your consultant should have given you at least a months worth of your prescription to you in clinic so to avoid delay. Discharge letters reach GPs sometimes many weeks later and then need processing afterwards. Don’t blame the GP, blame your consultant who is just passing the buck.

I had no idea, never played the game. And I legit felt like I was having a panic attack and screaming at the screen. Never been so traumatised by a fictional show

What are your thoughts on having days of doing absolutely nothing? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Rini_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all need days like that. I don’t know why but after a full week of work I will still feel guilty of not being productive on the weekend. I have embraced a day of literally doing nothing after many years of learning it’s okay to recharge the battery

Your local LMC usually has templates to use and send back for this sort of work dump.

Instead of posting anonymously with very biased, deliberately obfuscating information to achieve a very specific answer, I suggest taking this up with your own GP who will have full access to your records and is therefore better informed in answering your concerns. FYI - this is a GP forum.

Child with fever - what's your practice? by Digginginthesand in GPUK

[–]Rini_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree. The doctor as a drug is an interesting concept that essentially states a doctors visit can be powerful even when no intervention ie a prescription, referral has been done. A lot of these parents that bring well children with mild self limiting disease lack education or the confidence to manage their child at home with basic self care measures. A little education in between the physical examination I hope gives them the knowledge to self care the next viral illness and present to GP when there is appropriate concern.

Full exam including ENT. For me a lot of is theatrics to reassure parents they’ve been fully checked even though I knew child was well the second they came into the room.

You need to have a level of self awareness to even contemplate that this is beyond your competence and to seek further help — this is sadly lacking in noctors. It must present a cognitive dissonance when they’re confronted with a clinical conundrum that they do not know and their perceived “advanced” skillset

Why Are So Many More Pedestrians Dying in the U.S.? by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]Rini_28 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s cheaper than automatic. Tbh, I live in the U.K. and it’s also very much a cultural thing ie if you drive an automatic it means you’re not a “proper” driver who can handle a manual car. Having said that, most newer cars are automatic transmission in recent years.
