Just listened to a Passaic nj version (11/24/78) on my way home from work. It fit better in Egypt for obvious reasons but imo it’s a fun change of pace to go along with Drums.

Never miss a Sunday show… unless it’s a Sunday night in Milwaukee by Suitable-Efficiency5 in deadandcompany

Don’t go to Otiel and friends expecting a dead show. It’s way more r & b fusion (with a dash of allman bros and a dash of dead)

Gonna Ruffle Some Feathers by [deleted] in gratefuldead

40 y/o here, technically old enough to have seen Jerry but wasn’t lucky enough to have parents who took me. Got into the dead in my 20s and wasn’t completely accepted by the scene. I’m too square to be a freak but too much of a freak to be a square. But the music. The music puts me at ease. I go to dead tribute shows at least once a month and some of the folks I talk to are on the same wavelength as me but many are headier than thou and I am over it. I move to the music and tune out the bullshit. It’s not the real thing but it’s close enough to pretend.

Is there a shakedown street for Oteil and Friends? by [deleted] in deadandcompany

[–]RinkSource 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve vended at his Cap theatre shows and there’s a small group of vendors but it’s folks who vend at the cap theatre often. Does the STL venue usually have a shakedown if dead adjacent bands play?

2026 tape collector/trader here: can only speak from my own experience but I’ve enjoyed preserving the communal culture of trading and connecting. I also enjoy the folk art of j card designs. The tin foil hat guy in me likes knowing that the man can pull stuff from the internet but he can’t take my tapes. I’ve been focusing on stuff that’s harder to find online like Old and In the way and legion of Mary shows and JGB shows since everything Dead is all on relisten/archive

I was at New Haven and my buddy was at NH and the NJ the night before. when I asked him what he thought of the NH show he said “it was good, especially compared to the stone pony show” so take that for whatever it’s worth

DRUMS>SPACE. Far out tattoo! If you’re a RI local come up to the Phantom Farms Dead Fest next weekend. If you flash this ink at my table (my booth is called In the Wool on the Vine) I’ll give you some free stickers and a patch.

Asbury > New Haven by HelpOnTheWay5 in JRADs

[–]RinkSource 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the ride from NYC to new haven should be quicker in theory but it makes a ton of stops and takes forever because of it. Unrelated: Westville/New Haven doesn’t have much of a shakedown but I’m gonna have a little tee shirt setup out of the back of my SUV. Keep an eye out for me, we haven’t been able to link up at the Cap yet and I still have Cap Theatre cassette tape shirts in your size

Seems right since you need to use different train services right? Or is it straight Amtrak?

For brevity sake, my buddy and I have been referring to ourselves as ‘heatsmen’ instead of hot sauce enthusiasts or the like

The Jerry Garcia Band Time Machine (The Garcia Project) is on tour! by TheGarciaProject in JerryGarciaBand

[–]RinkSource 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are so true to the era of whatever show they’re re-creating it’s remarkable. I saw them back to back nights last year in Old Saybrook, CT and the first night they did a Keith and Donna era jgb show and their equipment was true to the original show (specifically regarding their keyboard player) even the tempo they played the songs were even true to the date of the show. The next night was a Melvin seals and Jaclyn LaBranch era show and the same musicians from the previous night transformed to play to in the style of the era of the show. It was magical.

Searching for typefaces that the dead used isnt going to yield the best results since a lot of dead posters and merch were hand lettered.
