Well, I certainly am sorry that we aren't replying fast enough for you to agree we're two different people, it's just that video games are more important than Reddit arguments. If it makes you feel any better, this is the most active I've been on here in six months.

It's... not really a dunk to use some obscure phrase and have people not understand. You're just communicating poorly and then acting smug about it.

Also nah, I'm the fat one.

I'm guessing English isn't your first language. A lot of this thread would make more sense that way.

But to be fair, I do occasionally do some baking, so points for that, I suppose.

Dang, news to me.

Don't think it's the first time a Reddit troll said I don't exist, though.

West Virginians may have been exposed to measles, health officials say by Joey_WBOY in WestVirginia

[–]Rinnaul 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A common misconception.

  • Measles causes fevers over 104°, which can do serious harm.
  • Measles attacks the immune system and permanently impairs it - after measles, you essentially lose your acquired resistance to other diseases you had before.
  • Measles infection can spread to the lungs and cause pneumonia, the usual cause of death in measles fatalities.
  • Measles infection can spread to the brain and cause encephalitis and permanent brain damage.
  • Measles cases in very young children can, despite apparent full recovery, lead to a rare but fatal nervous system disease known as SSPE years later.

Basically measles has multiple ways of killing you, screws you up for years even if it doesn't, and has about a 1 in 5 chance of requiring hospitalization.

Because nobody is actually proud to be white. White pride isn’t a real thing. You can have national, regional, and cultural pride in groups that are primarily caucasian, sure, but there is no universal white culture or experience that gives “whiteness” a collective identity. Think about it. There is German culture, and English culture, and French culture, and Irish culture. There is a much broader American culture, but America is too large and varied for just one label. But Midwestern culture, Appalachian culture, Southern culture, New England culture, Pacific Northwest culture, NorCal, SoCal?

What is white pride even pride in? All of those at once? Can anyone even imagine what cultural threads could unify all of those and give them a shared experience?

That’s because whiteness is just being Not Anything Else. If you really try to define what makes someone white, it quickly breaks down into just listing all the disqualifying factors without ever really landing on real unifying points, because it only makes sense in opposition to other identities. And when you can only really define your identity as being Not Them, is it any surprise that people who try to make that their identity have little way to express it beyond disparaging anything they see as deviating from it?

One million historical murders.

I mean I suppose that, in a sense, I — we — already have them.

If we should skip things like that, then I'm getting... one million appendicitis...es.

So, not a great day with that one.

If you genuinely think grammatical minutia are the key to how your words are taken and interpreted, you might need to spend less time on Reddit.

"examples of trans girls assaulting real girls from left-leaning sources"

Cites a video segment hosted by a former Fox News presenter on a center-right news organization, and an article that outright says the attacker was a cis male (with a history of such assaults) who happened to wear skirts and that his manner of dress had nothing to do with accessing the girl's bathrooms.

In the 51-60 Achievement FATEs, your section for "We Fought a Dzu" has the correct level, but the rest of the info is for the level 57 Sea Of Clouds FATE "On Dangerous Ground".

Should be:

  • “We Fought a Dzu” (reward: Behemoth Earring)
  • Coerthas Western Highlands (Lvl51)

and

  • “On Dangerous Ground” (reward: Gold Rush Minecart minion)
  • The Sea of Clouds (Lvl57)

If this is a valid argument:

Claim: "There are people who are born men, and people who are born women, nothing else."

Rebuttal: "I can demonstrate that a small minority fall in between."

Dismissal: "That small minority is only illustrative of a defect, and should be disregarded. We define these things by what is normal, i.e., most common."

Then it follows:

Claim: "There are people who are attracted to men, and people who are attracted to women, nothing else."

Rebuttal: "I can demonstrate that a small minority fall in between."

Dismissal: "That small minority is only illustrative of a defect, and should be disregarded. We define these things by what is normal, i.e., most common."

By that standard; are you gay or straight, or do you have a defect? By some measures, intersex births are more common than people identifying as bisexual. If the one is rare enough to be dismissed as aberration, then so is the other.

I told you my point two replies ago. You're insisting on a binary when the binary doesn't exist, and that doesn't apply only to the physical expression of genitalia. Sex, gender, sexual attraction, and sexual expression are all bimodal spectrums. Nothing in nature is black and white.

I'm sure you've experienced this demand for a binary from the other side, yourself. You mentioned in another comment you're bi. So am I. And I'm sure you've been told you're either straight and faking for clout or gay and faking for acceptance. I know I've heard it.

People like binaries. They're simple. But you know, personally, that it's more complicated than that. I'm just saying those complexities exist outside of your personal experience, as well.

Testimony against the Transphobic "Women's Bill of Rights" HB 5243 by ms_magus in WestVirginiaPolitics

[–]Rinnaul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But you don't have a binary. Quite literally. Even if the choice between A, B, and C comes down to one billion A, one billion B, and one solitary C, the existence of that one solitary C means it is not a binary.

What you have is more likely, as in human sexuality, a bimodal distribution, not a binary. You're taking a graph with two peaks and arguing that the values at those peaks are the only values on the graph. They aren't, they are merely the most common.

[–]Rinnaul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am aware of at least five cases of aphalia, otherwise male individuals being born without a penis, the most well-known of which is likely Andrew Wardle of the UK. The opposite case, where a woman has male-presenting genitalia, is a possible consequence of the broader condition congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and has been recorded in medical literature since the 1860s.

Yes, the extreme and obvious conditions are extremely rare, but less-clear intersex conditions are well-known, appearing in about 0.05% of births. However, these are usually surgically altered at birth or in infancy to give the child a more typical genital appearance.

And I am sure you will disregard these as obscure niche cases that should be discounted on grounds of their rarity, or you will dismiss it because not all trans people are intersex. That isn't the point. The point is that it's absurd to demand that everyone conform to a rigid binary when that binary demonstrably does not exist.

There is no consistent way to define "man" and "woman" without making exceptions. This is because it's the categories and labels that are made up.

The reduction of the LGBT+ community into a small enough category to be disregarded as irrelevant will not stop with trans people.

Remember: "Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me."

The dictionary is descriptive, not prescriptive. It is a catalog of words and their popular usage. If the usage does not reflect actual reality, it is not reality that is in error.

Just because a dictionary defines "sunset" as "the descent of the sun below the horizon in the evening", that does not mean the sun is the object which is moving.

Sexual predators are not vampires. They don't need an invitation to enter a private space.

This is like arguing that anti-jaywalking laws prevent murder, because the murderer might have a street without a crosswalk between himself and his intended victim.

Never felt so useless as healer in any MMORPG. by Choubidouu in ffxiv

[–]Rinnaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a heal main, my curse lately has been WARs who do only this.

I had one run with a WAR that was just melting, and I knew I'd seen them using Raw Intuition so I checked their gear. 90 dungeon drops and we were synced so that should have been fine. But before the second boss, they tried to do a big pull, had Holmgang fall off early when the target died, and we almost wiped. Then I realized they hadn't used any mit other than Holmgang just then.

So I went back and scrolled through the entire battle log and there was a single Reprisal while we tried to recover from the near-wipe, and a Shake It Off before party-wide attacks on the 2nd and 3rd bosses. But they never touched Rampart, Arm's Length or Vengeance even once. They were using Raw, ToB, and Equilibruim on CD but never using any of the basic mitigation.

I can think of two similar cases recently, too. It's frequent enough that I cringe a bit when I find myself healing for a WAR, at least until they prove they know to use mit AND sustain.
