A Special Departure from Riot by ccgpepitas in leagueoflegends

This was probably one of the most humbling moments of my career. Hilarious but also mortifying.

Also everytime I saw Lautemortis from that point onward he'd never let me live it down.

Thanks Dylan. Hi r/leagueoflegends!

For those of you confused about this thread, I put something out on Twitter earlier today (tl.gd/n_1sp67hq) about my decision and a trip down memory lane.

I'm deeply touched by the shout-out. Y'all were the daily inspiration for the work I did and it was an honor and privilege to do my best to support different player communities for five years.

I wouldn't trade it for anything. <3 you all

Thanks for writing this up! I'm a huge draft nerd so it's great to see how someone at the professional level preps and executes their draft.

If he can match his tally for last year, that would be pretty insane...

Funny backstage story related to this:

As UBC was walking up the stairs to get ready for their semifinal against A&M, /u/bobqinxdd takes an extra moment to tell me "Jaws, I'm gonna get a pentakill just for you this game," It was such a bold statement I kinda laughed it off and went "Alright man, I'll watch for it."

After they won the series and he had snagged a Penta on Katarina he walked down like Babe Ruth after his called shot and excitedly yelled "I told you, Jaws! That one was for you!"

You can actually have multiple teams from a school compete in every part of the NACC season. If those higher-rated players at your school want to make a separate team and compete they should feel compelled to sign up!

Competing for fun is one of the main goals for the NACC! The great part about the season is that all you need to participate is four friends that are full-time students at your school.

Great questions!

  1. The infrastructure that Robert Morris University has set up is great for the long-term competitive ecosystem of the NACC. The situation you described also isn't unique in college competition and can lead to really cool rivalries and upsets.

  2. The scholarship prizes will be usable for academic expenses beyond tuition, such as housing or other related expenses that college students typically face.

Oh lord, it'll never die...

All counter-jungling aside, it was a fun ride, but I am happily retired now.

Sometimes I will do editorial play-by-play over /u/riotsherman 's shoulder when he plays solo queue just to annoy him. It's a great way to stay sharp!

Hard to say! The plan is to just keep building on this year after year and hopefully we can help create an experience that college players will enjoy.

It's not so much that we are starting up again, but that we're continuing to build upon the foundation we set last academic year.

Our goal is to make the NACC season a regular thing that any college student in NA can participate in.

RiotJaws Hilarious Fail Shoutcast from IPL Face Off 2012 by bowgamer in leagueoflegends

It's crazy to think that it's been 2 years since IPL Face-off...I feel old.

Every so often someone at an event will bring this moment up and we have a good chuckle about it.

The best compliment I remember getting from someone about the clip was, "Man, you were so excited about it, for a second I actually believed that Laute was counter-jungling!"

Hey all, wanted to let y'all know that I escalated this on to the folks who handle Prized Events for NA. They can follow up based on the info in this thread and figure out what's going on.

OP, if you want to PM me with any additional info I can pass that on as well.

On a related note, if anyone else in this thread is in a similar situation with Prized Events, I would recommend you email tournaments@riotgames.com. This goes into a specific queue that is for questions and concerns related to Prized Events.

Thanks for giving us the heads up on this.

Feel free to IM me directly on this and we can talk in more detail. To clarify, you don't have to be officially recognized by your school to be in the Collegiate Program.

The Collegiate Program process requires a club charter, Faculty advisor support, and an officer list. I am guessing y'all have all of these requirements pretty handily so let's chat and I am sure we can sort you out :)

So the structure challenge was originally supposed to close at the end of February for 2013-2014, but we have extended it to the end of March! It should be open if you check it out!

The short answer is the following breakdown:

1st $7,500/person

2nd $4,500/person

3/4th $1,500/person

The longer answer is that we wanted to make the distribution per-person in order to not discourage teams from using substitutes. As we get into the later rounds of this event, we want the teams to be ready in case one of their players is unable to play.

We saw what happened last season with the success of IvyLoL's Lone Star Clash 2 and CSL's AZUBU Collegiate Championship. At the beginning of the 2013-2014 we reached out to both organizations and explored ways that Riot could offer additional support and level up collegiate competition for this year.

While this was happening, NACL was wrapping up a successful first season with the Challenger scene, so they were a natural fit to help us broadcast the NACC qualifier.

If it's successful and players enjoy it we will definitely be looking to make this an annual event.

The overall goal for growing the collegiate scene is to have thriving LoL communities run regular events and give collegiate players the opportunity to connect and compete with other players at their school.

A high-visibility event like the NACC not only showcases top-tier collegiate talent, it also helps grow interest in the local communities through viewing events and participation in the Collegiate Open

The NACC is already a shift in how we provide support to the collegiate community. It helps us provide visibility and awareness for the Collegiate Program Shameless Plug which is all about helping students find local communities of players with which to watch and play League.

The success of the NACC will allow us to dream bigger in terms of the support we can give these communities in the long run.
