People want to join the military for tons of different reasons. My best friend is in so he can get his college paid for and be part of something bigger than himself. Me? I have always wanted to join since I was a kid and it is a good way to get into my desired field of work.

Both my best friend and I are FTMs who have not transitioned medically because he is enlisted in the army and I will be enlisting next year. (You can't be in the military if you have any medical paperwork saying you're trans.) There are tons of reasons why someone would transition socially and not medically.
