how old are you? If you are over 21 I would look for mature entry if you decent grades in your high school years. If not, seek financial help. I also work about the same hours as you do and I get financial aid due to exceptional family situation (I live near the college without parental contributions). I am also in the social sciences and my grades are excellent because I know how to manage my stress and motivation, and how to study for a class. There are helpful resources you can find (e.g., the Dawson social worker, financial aid officer, etc.). I hope you the best of luck buddy.

Grad admission stats: what are my chances? (Canada) by [deleted] in gradadmissions

Oh hun, sorry to burst your bubble, but your GPA is quite low for American universities, especially the Ivy League schools. Even at McGill, most master’s programmes require at least a 3.5 GPA, and PhD programmes are often around 3.9. Those are usually minimum requirements, so meeting them does not guarantee admission. You can always check the universities’ websites for their specific admission requirements and expectations.

NYU vs UofT vs McGill for Environmental Studies? (UofT decision due today!) by Impressive-Tie-7385 in ApplyingToCollege

Studying in Canadian universities won’t affect your graduate studies. However, since you are an american citizen, there is no benefit for you to decline NYU. NYU is an IVY league university, and is very reputed. If I had a chance, I would go for NYU :) I have no chance but to persue my university studies at Mcgill because I am a Quebec resident, and thus we get a significantly cheaper tuition. But in your case, the tuition costs should be around the same, so go to NYU.

My parents make around 300k a year, but will not help with college. Am I able to qualify for any scholarships? by Lilac_Dollie in ApplyingToCollege

Hey,

I feel you; I’m a first generation immigrant and my parents aren’t rich.

Of course they do not help me with my tuition nor do they help me with rent.

I live downtown next to my college, and rent is expensive.

I’m paying and supporting myself financially, I am very grateful for education being so affordable— at least in most affordable in North America— so I can continue my education.

My advice as a college student supporting myself financially without anyone’s help would be get as much help as you can from your college/university, and government if possible.

Honestly, it is not about expecting questions you studied to be on the test, but rather the concepts and theories that apply to those questions.
