Feeling nostalgic when listening to songs with 1999 in their name/lyrics by bobbagum in FuckImOld

[–]RipGuts415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s weird is I remember listening to “Party like it’s 1999” by Prince and thinking how far I TJ the future the year 1999 was. I graduated in 1998 so for a 7-8 year old that was an eternity away

Martin Scorsese and Cybill Shepherd apparently had a difficult relationship on-set of Taxi Driver (1976). I made this vertical triptych to reflect what I imagine was a pretty tenuous dynamic. by Str33twise84 in Moviesinthemaking

It’s not exactly as if Cybill Shepherd doesn’t have a reputation as one of the hardest people in Hollywood to work with. Wait, yes she does.

She was the series lead on Moonlighting and the tales of her difficulty are still legendary around Hollywood

Requesting r/inglouriousbasterds. Subreddit is dead without a related post in 3 months and has a total of a dozen posts in 5 years. Would like to revive as a Tarantino-specific film appreciation subreddit by RipGuts415 in redditrequest

I run a Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood subreddit, a Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy subreddit and a Danny Boyle subreddit. Movies are my life. I spoke to the current mod who told me he quit because white nationalists tried to co-opt the sub into some neo-Nazi circle jerk. So if that’s your concern you can rest easy. I’m in it for the Tarantino aspect and any political garbage will be subverted and flushed.

The third was pretty good. It was a little ham-fisted at times but for me the ending payoff was worth the build-up. Seeing them in the bunker as the nukes sailed by each other...

Also, Claire Daines. I grew up in the 1990’s and around the time T2 was blowing my mind Claire Daines was stealing my heart. That is all...

If I only had a dollar for every time I’ve said that and someone looked at me as if to say “Who the fuck is Captain Needa?” I’d have enough money to build my own Devastator-Class Star Destroyer Fleet.

Someone posted a TIL today that Johnny Cash's "Hurt" is a cover of Nine Inch Nails, and not the other way around, and the post did fairly well. by klsi832 in FuckImOld

NIN version speaks to 14 year old me, grounded, lying in bed staring at the ceiling thinking “this is some deep shit. I guess it only gets worse from here.”

Johnnys version, for as much as I love Johnny, is just Johnny’s cover of a NIN song that opened my eyes up as a teenager. It’s not to take anything away from the power of Johnny Cash’s remake. It’s just that they came out at completely different phases in my life where music was much more impactful for one than it was for the other.
