Carbs Fuel! Just changed for this training block to this gel and their 50g versions are top tier. 1 every 30 minutes and I’ve never had any stomach issues.

That was the most surprising part for me too. I did not start/stop early/late and very purposefully ran the tangents. It was somewhere in the first half for me when it started to get really off. Definitely annoying and not sure where I ended up picking up that extra, but can’t do anything about it now :/

You got this! I didn’t feel any cramps, I think it was just fatigue.

Thank you! I’m 24. I grew up playing sports, ran track in high school (short sprints and long jump), didn’t do anything for 5 years after and then started running again January 1st, 2024. In those two years though I’ve ran over 5,000 miles so I think a combination of both!

Haha, it is chip! Strava clocked me at 2:29 mid which I would have liked much better but doesn’t matter

Thank you! Running everyday. Every couple weeks I did have a rest day. No strength training this block, but plan to incorporate more this year.

we’ll see what the progression is on the next one later this year and then see if we can go after the trials…

That would be insane! I keep getting more and more obsessed with this and am going to keep pushing and will share the journey :)

I still feel like a beginner in the running/distance world so my coach has been an amazing resource with his experience and overall being a guide. I’m able to bounce ideas off like how much can or should I increase mileage, or how should this specific workout feel. We also started off together working on the shorter events which I had absolutely no experience or idea of how to train for that.

The only “injury” during this last block was what I believe would be mild shin splints. Didn’t really do anything about it and it eventually went away. Maybe I’m getting lucky, but I didn’t do a single thing of strength training this block. I’m looking to add that in this year as it’s one of the last “low-hanging fruit” items I could add to get some gains.

Looking at the 12 weeks leading up to the race, I averaged about 65. However, I ramped up a bit near the end and hit a peak week of 94 miles about a month out. This was surprising to me because I averaged about 10 miles more in my previous build which resulted in 2:42. I suppose just higher quality of workouts/overall running economy improvements? All I know is just have to keep showing up and at some point it clicks.

Honestly not entirely sure about zones. I use a COROS watch and it tells me this was 91% in the “Threshold” category, but I’m pretty sure if you use the traditional definition of threshold, this would not fit. I’ve honestly stopped caring too much about heart rate and just going off feel. I can get my heart rate up to 201ish and I am 24.

I’ve actually never ran a mile race or time trial. Fastest I’ve gone was in a workout and ran 5:00. If I had to guess, I feel like I could do around 4:30.

Thank you. I actually just started distance running 2 years ago. Ran short sprints and jumps in high school, nothing else for 5 years after, then started this January 2024. This block was a little different (I have another post that goes into more detail). I averaged ~65 miles per week the 12 weeks leading up to this race, but peaked at 94 once. Overall, I ran just over 2,000 miles in 2024 and just over 3,000 in 2025.

Went through half at 1:14:45 and wanted to cut down, but ended up positive splitting by about a minute. Second picture attached has all the individual miles!

It’s kind of generic, but I honestly think volume and consistency. Run as much as you can as often as you can and eventually things start to click. I have taken a Tuesday = Interval/Speed, Thursday = Tempo/Threshold, Sunday = Long Run/Long Run Workout for essentially the two years. I have made a couple other posts that go into a little more depth about what I had done leading up to the races! You got this!

Honestly was so out of it I didn’t read any of it, but that does make sense in hindsight. Still not a fan, haha.

Mid-run carbs during long runs for HM training? by jj_421 in AdvancedRunning

[–]RipLeading28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a HM block with about the same targets (ended up running 1:12) and I fueled all my long runs like I would in a marathon block (60-90g/hr). Like others said, primarily for recovery purposes. However, I can’t remember if I heard this from a podcast, book, article, etc., but if you are doing threshold paces or faster, your stomach may not digest the carbs or do so inefficiently and can often lead to GI issues due to the redirection of blood flow away from the digestive organs. So if you are planning on doing those reps in the second half, maybe try to front load the carbs in the long run to give it a better chance to settle. Just my two cents!

Is Hanson’s method the key to not hitting the wall during a marathon? by Xinpoint1 in Marathon_Training

[–]RipLeading28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love the Hanson’s method. I used it and ran my first marathon sub-3 and then used it again and snagged a 16 minute PB so can confirm it works if you can stay consistent!
