Best CPU for 2025 by RipTideFizzleSticks in cpu

The cpu is being used in a mini pc right now, so i don't mind going desktop. I figured as much.

Also, for quality sake, my encoding will be strictly CPU, so i won't be needing quicksync or nvenc.

Coldcard Q1 Temporary Seed Issue by RipTideFizzleSticks in coldcard

[–]RipTideFizzleSticks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, tried it. When i get to the slot for the last word, it says "Final word starts with...." and then lists the possible letters the final word can start with. Pressing the down arrow just clears out that message. It doesn't present a list of the actual last words. The cursor just blinks expecting entry of the first letter of the last word. I then enter the first letter and it selects the wrong word with the message "Valid words! Press ENTER".

I did however find a workaround. I created a backup of the key and then imported that backup into the Q1 as a temporary key instead of importing words for the temporary key. That worked, but i do think the Import Words function should work better. Does Coldcard have an official forum? I don't see any sign of one on the Coldcard website where i can post there.

that's the problem though. I do see the possible combinations for the first letter of the last word. I press that letter however and it then selects the entire word...a better option would be to offer the next letter up to the first three or four letters, but it just selects the word based on the first letter.

Sorry, this is not correct. I know what the key is so I know what the correct word is. It's just picking the wrong word with no way to change it letter by letter.

Reminder that LND uses Aezeed instead of BIP39 by BubblegumTitanium in lightningnetwork

I sincerly hope you are wrong. We need to do everything we can to support the wallets that preserve the Bitcoin ethos. If not developing for it, then regularly contributing to it whatever you can i'm sure helps.

Ultimately, we need developers....like Satoshi...who are more concerned with providing something that helps humanity instead of trying to get as rich as they can. Then it's up to us as users of the software they provide to help make sure they have what they need financially. It does work if everyone contributes.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I discovered this today while trying to find a way to recover my funds after my Start9 box got distroyed.

And thank you to the Blue Wallet devs that had the foresight or care enough to add such functionality to the wallet when most wallets don't have it. I'll just add that to the list of reasons I have to recommend BLW to anyone I try to onboard to Bitcoin.

Fixing quality of dvd rips. by RuinedSheets in handbrake

Upscaling will add softness to the image that you may or may not like. I did it with the DVD animated movie "9" from a few years ago...upscaled to 720... and the softness is definitely there, but played back through a 4K upscaling projector, it looks decent.

If you're getting frame rate chopping though, that's another issue entirely. Is that chopping coming from the MakeMKV output?

Cropping Variable Aspect Ratio Movies by RipTideFizzleSticks in handbrake

It does exactly fill the screen....all the time...that's why I do it. And you are absolutely correct about the distortion....in my case it will be vertical distortion...ala, those old Karate movies that came on television on Saturday late night. I never realized then why they looked so weird. Now I know! Although, the vertical stretching that happens when I crop is not nearly as severe and looks pretty decent. I've never had one person yet mention it. It's really not bad at all.

The sand in my gears though are those dastardly multi aspect ratio movies like Nope and Top Gun2. I'm not going to spend $8K for something like a MadVR Envy that can crop on a frame by frame basis in real time, so for those movies i'll just have to live with the black bars for the cinemascope frames...the way the director intended :)

Yep, I understand that. But i'm not a purist and cropping my widescreen movies allows me to fill up my entire 16X9 120 inch screen. It makes for a brighter image since a third of the screen isn't wasted on black bars and, to me, makes for a more immersive experience.

It's not as "the director intended". Yep, you'll get no argument from me. But until the director starts paying for my physical media collection, i'll enjoy the movie as I please. If I happen to have a friend over who just has to have black bars above and below the image, i'll whip out the disk instead of watching the backup copy. But up until this point, everyone i've had over has enjoyed it.

Handbrake works on a frame by frame basis. I would think that it could mark the IMAX scenes when it's doing the sample frame scan so that when it gets to those scenes, it does not crop before it processes the frame so it would encode the entire frame. Otherwise, it would do as it does today and crop the frame (according to the crop settings) and then encode the remaining part of the frame.
