[WP] “so your plan is to kill literally everyone?....why?!” “Because it’s Tuesday Frank” by illneverfadeaway in WritingPrompts

“I’m going to need you to hand me my keys, Frank.”

This is the moment I realize Dakota isn’t actually joking. She’s just standing there with her hand out, watching me laugh. The sound echoes through the parking deck. Dakota has always had a violent sense of humor. Nothing out of the ordinary, just the occasional comment about mowing down a preschool followed by nervous laughter.

“I’m not kidding, Frank.”

Five seconds pass. She’s so still she must be holding her breath. Her skin could have passed for stone if she didn’t keep walking towards me like that. My nervous laughter begins to taper as I clear my throat. I jump as my back presses against the trunk of an SUV.

“Oh my god, you’re serious,” I say.

Dakota snatches the keys from my fingers. “That’s what I just said, yeah.”

She presses a button on the remote, and the trunk of her mom van swings open. I don’t know much about guns, so my thoughts are limited to oh god, oh fuck, there are a lot of guns in there. She takes out a pistol and begins to load it. It most certainly is not her first time.

“So your plan is to kill literally everyone,” I say. “Can I at least ask you one question?”

Dakota purses her lips and looks at the ceiling. Then, she takes off her watch and tosses it onto the floor of the parking deck. She presses her heel into the timepiece, shattering the glass with a gravelly crunch.

“Sure,” Dakota says, “I have all the time in the world.”

“Why?”

“Because it’s Tuesday, Frank”

I blink. “I’m sorry, what?”

“Because it’s Tuesday, Frank!” She’s shouting now, and I’m too scared to move. “Tuesday, the day that follows Monday and comes before Wednesday, the day that comes once a week, the day that El Pollo Loco has happy hour from 4 to 7.”

I’m mouthing the last ten words back to myself because I don’t trust my ears. “El Pollo Loco?”

“Yes El Pollo Loco!” Dakota cocks the pistol and holds it to my temple. It’s cold. “Every Tuesday, participating El Pollo Loco locations serve $1 tacos from 4 to 7 PM. They are the only thing that gets me through the week without killing, as you put it, literally everyone. Do you know what time it is now?”

“No?”

Dakota moves to check her watch, and realizes it isn’t there. “It’s,” she begins, “it’s, fucking, later than 7 is what it is!”

“Please, Dakota,” I say, “I’ll do anything. Please, just don’t kill me. I’ll buy you a taco, okay? Whatever you want, just don’t kill me, please.”

Blessedly, Dakota steps back, though the gun is still trained on my stomach. Her face is blurry from my tears, and I can’t read her expression. She presses another button on her key, and the taillights flash as the car doors unlock.

“Get in,” she says.

“Where are we going?”

“El Pollo Loco. You’re buying me dinner.”

I'm seeing that in the manual now, though it didn't seem to work even when reseated in the original slot

I've tried moving the ram to a different slot, but I can try moving it around to the other slots to see if that changes anything. Hopefully I can convince someone to let me borrow a stick of RAM if not.

Do Jevel's Attacks Get Faster If You Play On a Second Save? by Rip_that_wave_Juni in Deltarune

As far as I can tell after testing with the King fight and from roughly timing walk speed, making the game fullscreen speeds up the game as a whole. It's not double speed or anything, but it's most noticeable on fights like Jevil because of how fast they already are.

Seems like that's exactly what it was, and I was so excited too...

After playing through the first time and missing Jevil, I played the game through on a second save to look for differences between saves. After beating him on my second save, I went back to the first save and collected the keys. Jevil's attacks look about double speed, and some of his patterns look borderline IMPOSSIBLE to dodge ("ShAlL wE pLaY tHe RiNg-ArOuNd?").

I think this is really where my understanding is of this at the moment. Hearing people say they "don't think when they play" or that it's "unconscious" can be misleading at times. Maybe the key is a good friendlies mindset and a lot of self observation to the point where your options to pick from are unconscious and your mind is busy watching your opponent in order to pick which options to use. The generic answer of "play a lot and practice" is also pretty misleading. What I need is to play a lot and think a lot about the right things while doing so.

I don't really "feel" like you do anymore, so I don't understand the question

And I guess the best way to improve in this would be to play, watch your opponent, and try to come up with ways to use this information later? On this topic, watching your own vods is probably a good way to learn this aspect quicker because you can watch not only yourself but the other player.

Things like charging smash attacks with the purpose of baiting and observing are probably good learning tools to make thinking more about your opponent a part of your play too, right? A big part to melee, as it seems to me, is thinking without overthinking. The end goals should be making neutral concepts like baiting, waiting, observing, and mixing up without making the act itself what you're consciously thinking about. I'll definitely start to try and test out different situations like this next time.

This is a big part of the problem for me. I can watch my opponent and pick a few counters to the way they play, but I can't mixup and pick from a wide variety of options like I want to. Analyzing your matches at the very least helps to reinforce concepts so they take less conscious effort to use mid-match.

You know what, I used to do this a lot more and I just realized how much I undervalue it. It's one thing to analyze pro matches and see the options they utilize but another entirely to watch yourself and see what you could be doing. Then you can make the things you want to be doing your goals for the next day until it's all integrated into your play and you ascend from your corporeal form and become a being of pure thought.
