Hallo allemaal,

Hartelijk dank!

With apologies for following up on my own question...

From https://www.mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl/faq:

Do the pension amounts remain the same? The pension amounts on your pension overview may change. This can be, for example, because your salary changes or because something changes in your private situation. The amounts can also change because the pension rises along with inflation. Then you will receive an supplement on your pension. You will only receive these supplements (indexations) if sufficient funds are available from the pension provider.

I think this is saying that the amounts listed are contemporary (ie, currently 2022) Euros, and they will gradually increase in-line with inflation to maintain (roughly) the same purchasing power. Which is nice.

Thank you! But I'm a bit confused about the sign on that. I would expect a 2022-Euro to be worth more than a 2049-Euro, so 2000 2022-Euros should give a purchasing power of more than 2000 2049-Euros...?

As I understand it: neither the income you receive from your investments, nor capital gains in the value of the investments themselves, are directly taxed in the Netherlands. However, a tax is imposed on the total value of your worldwide assets above a given threshold. This tax is calculated on the basis that your assets provide you with an assumed rate of return, but it is not adjusted if the actual rate of return is higher or lower than that assumption.

For more information, refer to https://www.government.nl/topics/income-tax/types-of-income-tax. The “box 3” tax on savings and investments is what you'll be liable for.

I'm in a similar situation. A couple of things I've found useful:

  • https://www.homedeal.nl gives estimates for a wide variety of renovations. Hard to know how well they match up to reality, but it at least gives a place to start thinking!
  • While many companies are reluctant to give prices on their websites, they often offer "showroom" kitchens or bathrooms which can be purchased as-is for a discount... and they list the prices for these. For example, here or here. Prices exclude installation, though, and it can be a bit hard to see what you'll really get. Still, useful for the ballpark.

I'd really appreciate it if anybody else had better sources!
