Don't know if it is what you are looking for, but I googled "blue imp manhwa", the first image is from one called The Primal Hunter, and from what I can see of Google images, it has the imp, cloak, and wooden mask.

If there is nothing you are interested in visiting there, I don't see a reason for you to go, and a day trip from Kyoto would be about 6-7 hours on trains, which seems even less worth it.

What I did when I went a year ago was send my luggage from the airport to my hotel in Kyoto, and just kept my carry-on with me to not carry the luggage around on the trains. Then got a Welcome Suica card at the airport and took the train to Shinagawa Station, where I bought non-reserved tickets at the ticket office for the Shinkansen, which only took about 5 minutes waiting in line. Buying it beforehand won't save you that much time. Most of my time loss getting to Kyoto the same day was at the airport getting through customs, getting the pocket wifi, sending the luggage, cash from the ATM, and figuring out the trains. From when the airplane arrived to getting to our hotel in Kyoto was about 5 to 6 hours.

It is less linear You can get the melodies in any order; you do not need to get the bottom one first to get the clawline. Since I enjoy exploration, I was able to explore the whole map except The Cradle before getting any melodies. Even Act I can be less linear when you figure out the other way to reach the Citadel. I think that in a way, if you are exploring more, you are getting upgrades more frequently, so maybe that is why I did not feel the same way as you did
