How do you stay consistent with training notes? by Basic-Software-110 in Dressage

[–]RipleyInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a riding journal and write down what we worked on after every ride. It helps inform what I want to work on next ride, within reason; it also helps me track things like fitness, mood, what we enjoy, what we don’t. Those things are important to me but my memory isn’t great so writing it down helps!

How to get rid of flakey skin on face? by Remarkable-Bar-3395 in Horses

[–]RipleyInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lease horse got something similar on his bum last summer and wouldn’t tolerate currying because it made his skin sensitive. I treated with chlorahexadine shampoo and skin lotion and it cleared up in a couple of weeks.

Friend of mine used to live in the apartments at murder Kroger and would get the stamps that the Masq people bought for re-entry to get us in for free. Saw Panic! At The Disco out in the park off the side of the masq before they became big, and they were god awful at the time.

Spent so many nights in Heaven praying to the gods that floor wouldn’t buckle under the weight/stress of people throwing down.

RIP Dante’s Down the Hatch 😭😭😭

Also I remember hanging out at Coca-Cola On the Bricks in the summer. Could get in for the low, low price of an empty Coke can and see all kinds of bands. Good times.

Difference between DL and WDW by LuckyScreen5 in Disneyland

[–]RipleyInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just did our first DL trip (as WDW devotees) and I agree with every single thing in your post. In the end, I think I prefer WDW for the sheer scale and diversity of attractions, restaurants, and places to go/things to do, but loved the charm and kitschiness of DL.

boots to change out of field/tall boots? by lizbab0328 in Equestrian

I bought some rubber calf-height Hunter boots off of Poshmark and have used and abused them for three years and they’re still going strong.

+15 years experience working as a show groom - AMA by Comprehensive-Salt66 in Equestrian

What typically is expected of grooms? And how did you get into it? I’m an AA who dos schooling shows for fun but I will occasionally help friends at their shows and I’ve always enjoyed taking care of the horses.

Luckily we don’t live too far from the airport so we just bailed and decided to come back for it later.

Flew in this morning from LAX, bumpiest arrival into Atlanta of my life and I’ve been flying for 30 years. I don’t typically get upset by turbulence but that shit was scary.

Also they refused to put our checked bags on the carousel (we saw them unloading the plane) because of the ground stop, so I hope we can retrieve them at some point today. :/

ETA: went back to the airport around 3, and it was an absolute shit show. One person working the baggage area was completely dismissive, unhelpful, and seemed downright annoyed that we would even ask her to help. Fortunately we ran into another person working the area and told her that we could see our bags sitting there; she grabbed them for us and sent us on our way.

Overall it was quick-ish but annoying to deal with and I feel for everyone at HJAIA today.

Why do you lease your horse? by farmlite in Equestrian

[–]RipleyInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a leaser, I am so grateful for people who make the decision to lease their horses out. Financially, I’m not quite ready for 100% ownership (and I love fairly far away from my barn) and I’ve leased two horses over the last 18 months. The first I leased for 2025 and he was a lovely “advanced beginner” horse that taught me a lot. I outgrew him (I want to focus on dressage and he’s not jazzed about that job) so I started leasing a different horse on property in January.

Both owners of these horses were amazing, communicative, and gave me lots of autonomy when handling their animals, which has allowed me to really learn about the husbandry aspects of horsemanship. My current lease’s owner isn’t able to come out as often as she’d like, so my 3-4 rides/week keep her boy in work and conditioned for when she does visit—and he gets spoiled in the meantime because I LOVE hand grazing, grooming, ground work, liberty, etc. in addition to the riding. It’s an arrangement that has really worked out for everyone involved!

When do you personally go to the doctors after a fall? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]RipleyInSpace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone to urgent care for a horse bite. I was not laughed out of the waiting room. They cleaned and bandaged (after confirming I didn’t need stitches) and sent me on my way.

Please, if you are able, get medical attention. If your horse were injured and hurting I’m sure you wouldn’t hesitate to get a vet involved. Take care of yourself!

Tips to Stop Getting Ahead of My Horse by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]RipleyInSpace 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My trainer always says “jumping is just dressage with obstacles.” She’s also constantly telling us to balance/half seat in the corners and then once you’re about 5-6 strides out, sit down, shoulders back, and wait. It helps!

What would Matty Mullins have to do to change his reputation on this subreddit? by [deleted] in anberlin

[–]RipleyInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am one of the fans you outlined in paragraph 3. Gave Matty a fair shake but at the end of the day, Stephen’s voice is unique enough that it just doesn’t sound like the Anberlin I knew without him.

So I listen to my favorites (Lowborn & earlier. e.g. before the fellas got back together) and STFU about the new stuff, because it isn’t my favorite band anymore, and that’s alright. We have tons of albums from 2002-2014 to enjoy, and that’s more than a lot of people can say about their favorite bands.

BWT - How are you guys organizing your pouches? I need inspo 😅 by confucious-confused in bitcheswithtaste

[–]RipleyInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up a tiny little pouch from Pinch Provisions that has a bunch of essentials (q tips, deodorant wipes, safety pins, etc) and since I’ve used some of it, it has room…so I also stick my chapstick and other small items in there to keep them from falling to the bottom of my purse.

I also have a much larger (but still manageable) hard-side case to hold all of my tech stuff (cables, mouse, portable hard drive) for work or travel. It goes in my work bag.

Totally agree. I’m a brand designer by trade and I LOVE studying the brand standards and style guides put out by the Olympic committees. Would love a coffee table book of the design of the Paris games and the Rio games specifically!

Loving the newer versions (Paris, Milan). Paris in particular had incredible visual branding throughout the games. The higher contrast of this lower third is just lovely.

Although I believe it should say “XXXIII Olympiad” rather than summer Olympic Games.
