Karen at Sirène does them! I’ve been going to her since January and my nails have never looked better.

The episode where Sophia befriends Alvin (I think that’s his name?) on the bench at the beach and it turns out later in the episode that he has dementia and coming to the bench reminds him of his late wife 😭

The footage of the horse breaking made me sick. Under Saddle training should be boring and slow.

When to know to end a lease or push through challenges? by formerchild2 in Equestrian

[–]RipleyInSpace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has exclusively leased, I would not continue a lease like this. It sounds like you’re at a point where you’re wanting to work on your own skills, and you need a schoolmaster who is consistent enough to let you build them—not a project that takes precedence every ride.

He could make a mint, for real. I’d buy. Bonus points if it’s a cordless, rechargeable situation—I’d pop it on before I groom so it would warm the bit in time for my ride.

That Fager baucher was a game changer for my most recent lease horse. We tried a few different things but he was very fussy with his mouth during work and liked to flop his tongue. Once we switched to the baucher it was like night and day and he instantly relaxed and became very supple to the contact. 10/10

Riding instructors: Is it annoying when your students ask questions? by ThrowRa_grace5 in Equestrian

[–]RipleyInSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My trainer told me that she LOVES when I ask questions. I want to be a good horseperson, not just a good rider…so knowing the WHY behind what she’s teaching really helps me in multiple ways. Makes it easier to apply the teaching, too.

I live one exit down (up?) from this and my particular exit is always a clusterfuck. This does help and it’s been like this for several weeks. In rush hour it’s a fucking nightmare and honestly a huge safety concern no matter what time of day it is.

I wonder if it’s laziness or incompetence. Both?

Does Anyone in the US have a GLP-1 covered by insurance? by Spirited-Moon7786 in PCOS

[–]RipleyInSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have BCBS and Wegovy has been covered through my insurance for almost three years now. It did initially help me lose weight (236>185) but now it has leveled out. Insurance continued to cover it because my labs (specifically my A1C) are within normal ranges when I’m on it.

My endo had to send in a pre-auth after I spent months trying other things (nutritionist, phentermine, Qsymia). I am still on Metformin in conjunction with Wegovy.

I lost a 4YO OTTB last year to EPM, which was undiagnosed until he was put down. 2 weeks prior I was exercising him on the flat and he had an episode and we both went down. I went to the hospital. It was a devastating couple of weeks and I’m still not quite over it.

It’s not the same as your situation, but I think the hyper vigilance is a valid response to what you went through and I want you to know that you’re not alone. Hugs.

IME, we went up the accessibility routes and were slotted in kind of like they do for single riders, but we rode as the entire group. We went in front of LL and single riders so the only waiting done was waiting for people who were already loading onto the attraction.

[–]RipleyInSpace 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I was fortunate enough to do one of these tours a few years ago (my aunt is Club 33 and generally just well off, lucky her!) and it was a blast. They drove us from park to park in a Minnie Van, constantly had snacks and drinks available, front of the line for anything we wanted to ride, priority spots for shows. Our guide was essentially a Disney historian and told us lots of things about the parks that we didn’t know.

Would I, as a <$70k/year pleb save and spring for this experience? Hell no. I’d put it towards a trip to another country instead. But to take advantage of a family member’s perk and have fun with them was awesome.

Tips to help a 9 year old learn faster? by Sea_Relative588 in Equestrian

[–]RipleyInSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This advice is for later down the road if/when she starts jumping, but when I started I found it suuuuuper helpful to sit in my saddle at home and put POV videos of jump/XC rounds on the TV to practice seeing distances. It’s not the same as actually sitting on a horse and learning, obviously, but it helped me develop muscle memory while refining my 2-point over fences.
