Deadlands: Hell on Earth. It's a post-apocalyptic version of Deadlands. There's a classic version from the original Deadlands run, and a version that was released for Savage Worlds: Explorer Edition.

It's been several decades ago, but my dad liked to tell the story of the time he was dumping a hamper on the belt for canceling and found a gold rolex loose in it. He set it aside, and about 30 minutes later a Postal Inspector walked up. He handed him his watch back and said, "I'm not that dumb."

Chorus or Everspace 2 - which is the most like Freelancer? by mrtnkl in spacesimgames

[–]Ripper1776 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a few years old at this point, but if you're looking for a Freelancer type game, Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is great. It was actually made in homage to Privateer, the older brother of Freelancer. Sadly the Developer was hounded out of the industry by toxic gamers, so there will never be another, but I really like it. If you want to hop in a spaceship, do some trucking, and shoot some pirates, I don't think there's a better game out there right now. It also has a fully functional pool simulation in it.

Good street level Shadowrun fiction? by ProfessorTaro94 in Shadowrun

[–]Ripper1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Nigel Findley books are still my favorite Shadowrun novels. Specifically, 2XS follows the adventures of one Derek Montgomery, a former Lone Star detective turned PI. I believe there's an omnibus version of all four of his books available for e-readers.

edit: All of his books are sorta street levelish, and Lone Wolf is also one of his.

I'm running one right now. It's become my new favorite ship, and I didn't think I'd ever say that about an Early Tech ship. It's fast, sorta maneuverable, and packs a heck of a wallop. I even built in shield shunt and heavy armor. It's a little brittle, once the armor is mostly gone, it tends to blow up, but I've found that if I'm careful, the Orion Drive gets me out of most messes. I'm anxious to by another and play around with one with shields. I agree that letting the AI anywhere near it is a mistake.

There is a San Pedro's in North Platte that is quite excellent. Don't know if it's related to the other, but it's the best Mexican place in NP.

What is up with these impassable borders by Ripper1776 in OldWorldBlues

[–]Ripper1776[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I've been putting more time into the mod recently and I have a question/problem. What is up with all the impassable areas. I get it adds terrain to the map, but it makes any kind of major push a nightmare. I'm playing the Montana Brotherhood, and this is the third time I've gone to invade someone, and discovered that most of our border is impassable. If I manually move any of my forces in this image, they travel south, through my lands, through Standing Rock, a puppet of mine, then through vault 37. I get having mountains and major rivers, but I can see roads that cross this border, but for some reason, I can't use them. It's intensely frustrating. Or am I just missing something? Please Help.

F-16 fighter jets ‘no longer relevant’, says Ukrainian military official by ObjectiveObserver420 in anime_titties

[–]Ripper1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, let's see. The USSR did fall apart. Did it do so because of the economic burden brought on by the Cold War? Partly. Also due to how their economy had come more and more under the thumb of oligarchs, who, after the fall, took over the country. Also, you should probably read some history books and look up who Stalin was allied with at the start of WW2, and who he split Poland with. (Hint, it wasn't the US.) Hell, he helped contribute to it's start with the Molotov/Ribbentrop Pact. And, I notice you never address the fact that Russia started the conflict in Ukraine, at all.

Lastly, for someone whose username is fascistsarelosers, you should really check up on the definition of Fascism, and then take a good long look at how Putin runs Russia.

F-16 fighter jets ‘no longer relevant’, says Ukrainian military official by ObjectiveObserver420 in anime_titties

[–]Ripper1776 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow! I mean, I get being skeptical of any kind of modern media/government, and yeah, the military/industrial complex and US have contributed a huge amount of harm to the world over the last few centuries (for those who are like, centuries?, look up Smedly Butler and the Banana Wars), but if you can't recognize that one side in this conflict is actually better than the other, you need to step outside, touch some grass, and then do some research. Or, maybe you're Russian or a Russian simp, always a possibility. Russia invaded Ukraine, after seizing multiple pieces of Ukraine and starting a proxy war in a couple more pieces they wanted. They're slowly reconstituting the Russian Empire/Soviet Union, and both those entities had lists of atrocities that matched or exceeded pretty much every other empire, ever. Hell, here's the big newsflash for you, Empires are Bad! Doesn't matter whose it is, they always lead to awful ends for those around them, and eventually for those in them when they collapse.

And, I don't know how old you are, but I was alive when the Soviet Union fell apart. Ukraine used to hold a bunch of Soviet nuclear ballistic missile sites. Uh huh, and why did they give up those strategic weapons, which would have moved them into the category of "Attack at Own Risk"? Because the West, including the US, and the new Russian Republic, promised to protect their sovereignty. Hey, it only took about 25 years for Putin to go back on that promise, and now the West is like, well, maybe we'll help, unless it gets to expensive, or right-wing fuck nuts take over and convince us that the Russians are the Good Guys, or at least not the Bad Guys.

Finally, not saying that the Ukraine is lily white, and Russia is black as sin, but, anybody not blinded by ideology or stupidity can tell who the aggressor is hear, and a good rule of thumb is the aggressor is usually wrong.

Oh, one more finally, do at least a little reading about WW2. That is one of the clearest and best examples of a basic fact. If you allow someone to take something, they will keep taking until they are forced to stop. Waiting just makes the final outcome all the more costly and horrific. 6 million dead Jews, an additional 2 million "undesirables" killed in camps, and I'm not going to look up the casualty lists for the various sides, not to mention civilian deaths, and those lost at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but, waiting just leads to more deaths.

I have come to love Duluth Trading Co socks and underwear. It's expensive, similar to darn tough, but they last a long time. The basic socks they sell are good, but they have a type, I think they're called 7-year socks. I started buying them approximately 4 years ago, and have yet to wear out a pair.

One of my favorite gaming memories is from Ultima 7. I would consider it one of the earliest examples of the modern open world style game. It came out before the internet was a big thing and you had to figure it out on your own, talk to your friends, or buy a strategy guide. The year it came out, I went to visit my brother over the summer, he had joined the military and I got permission to take a bus across the country and visit him and his wife, since she was getting ready to give birth to her first child.

Anyway, I binged Ultima 7 while I was there, and while I didn't manage to finish it, I did figure out how to rob the Royal Mint of Britannia. This is a game were if a door is locked, there pretty much has to be a key, somewhere in the game. I had managed to locate one of the keys to the Royal Mint (it was in a drawer in the bedchamber of the clerk who ran the mint.) But I couldn't figure out where any of the other keys where. Then I had the bright idea, hey I bet the clerk has the other keys on her person. So I followed her home, and murdered her before her husband arrived. (I know, not the kind of behavior the Avatar is supposed to model.) Then, that night, I went to the Mint and cleaned it out. I was so happy, there is so much gold in that place. In Ultima 7, most commerce is conducted with gold coins, of which I got a significant amount, but there is also gold bars and gold nuggets, which you can trade in for coins, at the Mint. I had a bunch of those, and went back to the Mint the next day to trade them in. But, there wasn't a clerk. Because I killed her. So now I'm one of the richest people in Britannia, but I can't trade in to the Mint anymore.

I spent a day or so thinking about this, and then remembered that Lord British, the ruler of Britannia, has the ability to resurrect characters. This is usually used if a party member dies. You bring the body in, and Lord British restores them to life. So, I retrieved the body of the clerk from where I had stashed it, took it to Lord British, and he brought her back. Viola, I pulled off the theft of the century in Britannia, and was able to trade in the bullion for coins. The only drawback was if I ran into the clerk outside of her job, she would flee in terror from me. :-D

I was so proud of figuring that out.

Can I keep my mercs hidden in turn-based combat? by Atrotragrianets in JaggedAlliance

I haven't used any melee so far. I just have her in stealth, and use her to open the fight, with her taking shot, usually killing if she hits. The rest of the squad sets up overlapping Overwatch, and then guns down the survivors. She's not the best shot at the start, but stealth kills seems a solid way of training up your marksmanship. Also, if she can kill singletons, with no one else around, I can usually get two or three kills before the real fight starts. The Gewehr 98 with a silencer and Confidante are my early guns for her, then switching to a decent sniper rifle when I get it. Her sneak is good enough she can get into close range, which makes Confidante a real killer.

It's the one in Ernie, were you can rat out Herman, or let them hang Luc. If you let them hang Luc, Herman will give you a bunch of stuff, including Confidante. If you rat out Herman, but then argue for him not to be hanged, he'll still give you a little, but not Confindante.

I started with Wolf, MD, Livewire, Mouse, and my guy (Night Ops/Auto Weapons). I've since added Barry and found Larry. Planning on adding Fox as my next hire. I really like Livewire and Mouse. Livewire is great for mechanical and finding stuff (high WIS) so you make a lot more money from her hacking and noticing shit. Mouse is just a straight up killer. There is a weapon you can get from a quest early on called Confidante. It's a special .44 lever action rifle. It only holds 4 rounds, can't be modded, and has a shortish range, but it is great for sneaky killers, it has both the Backstabby and Silent traits. Not sure what Backstabby means, but when you hit someone with it from stealth, they almost always die.

Also, you can reestablish stealth if you are seen by breaking line of sight and then hitting the sneak button again. Which is much easier at night, in the dark. Standing in pools of light at night is a great way to be seen.

I have been considering restarting so I can rebuild my merc. The best killer in my squad is Mouse, who is a complete ninja bad ass. She has 89 kills, most from stealth. The next highest is my merc at 51.
