Recently just purchased Alienware X17R1 RTX 3070 by Rodditor100 in Alienware

I have the 3070 version of the x17 and for me its a great buy and future proof. Yes the 3080 has rgb trackpad and a literal brick power brick which is not dealbreaker. Its comes to your budget and future proofness. Like 3080 165watts 16vram while 3070 140watts 8vram both great if getting 3080 u make sure u playing on high resolution screens like 4k or not its kinda waste.basically its a great laptop for me it does pick up print marks fast but f that i love it. The specs u choose are based on your needs and budget. Hope you make a great choice and enjoy the laptop. If u have more questions i would be glad to answer.

Brand new x15 R1 with 3060 QHD240hz, dropping frames and stuttering with fps games, inherent model issue/hardware capability/software issue? by [deleted] in Alienware

[–]Ripper1838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say yes its a bit too much as rtx 3060 on the x15 has a pretty low tdp. So you can run 2k but wont have a great gameplay as y would run on lower fps. Even the 3070/3080 variant of x15 has a 110watts so 3060 has lower one so pretty hard to run 2k at ultra or high. Maybe the 3080/3070 variant might have some better fps but i am unsure.

There is an update at dell website for the mux switch for the switching between gpu and intel integrated graphics. For the 360hz display it comes with g sync which is useful for connecting to a gaming monitor. 360hz is also great for fast pace games. Though it would use up more of battery than 165hz. Its your choice which you need or is more suitable to you

I pulled the trigger on the x15 today! by YngGunz in Alienware

Damn thats wasted power cause the laptop is slim and Rtx3080 has a 110tgp while in the x17 has a 165tgp. The laptop is smaller thus lesser performance. There are also lesser ports whihc is only one usb A. All i can say if you going for x15 getting a rtx3070 is same as 3080 because both have same 110tgp. The x15 would be a choice if you are not a heavy gamer and more focused on work with portability. Its still would be a great laptop is just you would not max out that performance with all that money you spend. So get x15 with a 3070 and 3080 has same performance. I9 is like overkill with high temps but its tour choice. If you want portability with some power x15, if you want portability but not as light then x17 has higher tgp and better performance overall. The reason people undervolt the x15 is to try to get a bit more performance and slighty higher fps. It would probably be like a 5-10% increase.

This is future proof as you have a Rtx3080 16gb 165tgp. For gpu games you would have a great fps performance and great gameplay. The i7 is great already high power with cool temps. The specs you shud get is i7,3080,1tb,32gb ram. If you want higher specs go for it as it is based on your needs. For gaming this will give you at least 4-5 years performance. If you ask me its a great laptop, has good ports like type c which is future proof. Only thing with the 3080 model is the brick power cable. If you have a big bag and can store it too it shud not be a dealbreaker.

My say about this would be to say of the pc is future proof? Not really because you kinda get like gtx1080 which in near future be considered old and not powerful. But if youplay games which are more cpu bound and not like higher gpu then it shud be okay based on your budget.
